Frunch Deejay

First there was Breakfast + Lunch >> Brunch.

Now take Friday + Brunch >> Frunch.

If I were witty, I would write something here about logic and maybe even Venn diagrams. Alas, witty I am not. Just sarcastic and cynical.

Somewhere For Everyone

We were invited over for Frunch at the Radisson Blu, Dubai Media City and although it was not our first Frunch there, it was our first with the kids.

Sans kids, we were seated in Icon Lounge but this time with the kids, we requested to be close to the kids play area, which coincidentally is also next to the pizza and pasta station – a favorite with Wee Scotch and Li’L Ginger.

And for the smokers out there, there is also Icon Bar – a flight of stairs up from Icon Lounge.

Is there Pork?

Why yes there is.

Upstairs in Icon Bar, where smoking is permitted, lies the pork station with charcuterie, bacon, sausages, and ribs.

Next to the pork station are also some buffet favorites like butter chicken and for me, seafood chowder. I may have loaded up on a bit too much food as I could not balance a plate of pork, a bowl of soup, AND Li’L Ginger.

One or the other had to go. My daughter refused to walk but thankfully she was happy to be carried around by a few of the chefs as I wandered around sampling more of the food.

Kid-Friendly

For family frunchers,  the “Kids Corner” is located in Certo Italian restaurant. This is perfect for the kids as it’s also where there are live stations  for pizza and pasta.

At the Kids’ Corner, there is the usual kids’ brunch activities of face painting, arts and crafts, and movie watching. There is also a pizza-making activity for the kids.

Live Stations

Live Stations are great because you can customize your order. Senior Sous Chef Shiv Negi made us lovely omelet garnished with asparagus from the tapas station that the kids enjoyed.

As you can see, the Ginger and Scotch family dines out with Transformers – it’s one way we keep the kids entertained when they have exhausted the offerings at the kids section.
As a side note: these little Card Games by Shuffle (sold at Borders Dubai) make great travel games for ages 6+. Wee Scotch is really loving strategy games right now and I love that the cards can be transported in a sturdy little box. We have the Transformers one but there’s also Cluedo, Guess Who, Monopoly, and more.

As for Li’L Ginger, well, she’s at the age where we tend to just shove an iPad in her hands when she gets a little restless so that we can
enjoy
finish our meal.

I really enjoyed the food from the outdoor BBQ station.

The corn wasn’t as fresh as when we make it at home but I loved the grilled chicken wings and the beef ribs were meatier and far more flavorful than their pork counterpart upstairs.

And So Much More

I also loved the Oyster Bar and Cheese and Wine station. There is a sommelier who will guide you through wine tastings should you so wish.

The staff serve drinks to the table but those seated in Icon Lounge have the added benefit of a help-yourself tap which I think was filled with Heinekin when we were there.

Also upstairs in Icon Bar is a make-your-own Bloody Mary station.

I was very tempted but alas, I was designated driver so had to give it a pass…this time.

Desserts

I normally skip the sweets and desserts section (I prefer cheese) but it was for sure Wee Scotch and Li’L Ginger’s favorite part of Frunch.

We have instilled in them that they are not allowed to have any candy until they have FIVE healthy items like fruit and/or vegetables. And then only a limited number of treats. Otherwise they just eat themselves sick (live and learn).

My husband and I aren't big on the extravagant Dubai brunches but if we do #brunch, the kids often come with as (believe it or not) most brunches in Dubai are kid-friendly since there are so many expat families here. We let the kids loose on the children's area where there's often the usual activities of face-painting, cookie decorating, pizza making, and movie watching with popcorn. Their favorite section (not mine unless there is gummy candy ?) is of course the dessert and candy table. But we have instilled in them that they are not allowed to have any candy until they have FIVE healthy items like fruit and/or vegetables. And then only a limited number of treats. Otherwise they just eat themselves sick.
