Over this past summer, I got addicted to podcasts. I had no idea there were so many different ones that cover everything from daily news to crime. I mean, there is even a podcast where two grown guys watch and report on every episode of Gilmore Girls.

Needless to say, I was a bit overwhelmed when it came time to decide on a podcast that I could actually dedicate my time to listen all the way through. But one that struck my fancy and is also one that I now try to listen to weekly is named “Call Your Girlfriend.” This podcast is so much fun. (Side note: I’m currently listening to an episode as I write this.) The purpose of the podcast is “for long-distance besties everywhere” and is co-hosted by two lovely ladies who are in this situation and actual best friends themselves, Anne Friedman, a freelance journalist and Aminatou Sow, co-founder of Tech Ladymafia.

Now, what I like about this particular podcast is that it is heavily feminist, so much so that in almost every episode, Friedman and Sow discuss any “menstrual news” that caught the eye of either of them. Along with that, I also appreciate that these two gals aren’t afraid to talk anything, which as a listener, makes me feel like a part of their squad since they are so comfortable, it makes me more comfortable. Sow and Friedman also get real about many various subjects and it’s nice as a listening ear to get perspective on subjects such as Hillary Clinton, honesty about self-care, and women who shave their facial hair (seriously).

My ultimate favorite aspect about this podcast is that these wonderful women cherish their friendship with each other so much and you can feel just how much by listening to what they say. They are so casual with one another and I love when they crack each other up unexpectedly. Even though the podcast is directed towards long-distance BFFs, as Friedman and Sow are themselves, I still felt the podcast was relatable to someone like me, who does not have a long-distance best friend, which works out well because I feel that I have personally gained two best friends in these two co-hosts.

But wait- there’s more!

If you decide to take a listen to an episode (or five) of Call Your Girlfriend and develop a love for it like I did, check out their website where you’ll not only find every episode of the show but you can shop the CYG store. Items include sweatshirts, pins, stickers, tote bags and so much more.

These besties have truly got it going on and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for the future. Take a listen and enjoy!
