MyCarCheck.com, the UK’s No.1 consumer vehicle data provider, has commissioned cartoonist Wil to highlight the imminent abolition of tax discs and the implications for used car buyers and sellers.

From 1st  October 2014, motorists won’t need to display a round paper tax disc in their windscreens. They will still have to pay vehicle excise duty, but the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) will keep online records. The police will use number-plate recognition technology to catch any dodgers.

Once the new rules come in, when you buy a car, the tax will no longer be transferred. You’ll need to tax it before you can drive it. This can be done online (www.gov.uk/tax-disc), over the phone (0300 123 4321) or at a Post Office.
