Continental Tyres completely stole the limelight with its winning streak at the popular Tyre Technology International (TTI) Awards for Innovation and Excellence held recently in Germany. Conti bagged awards in two categories out of five at the prestigious event.

Dual Recognition for Conti

Continental Tyres was recently honoured at the TTI Awards ceremony with the Tyre Manufacturer of the Year award; and also with the Tyre Manufacturing Innovation award for 2014 for its Hannover-based ContiLifeCycle facility.

The German firm was presented with both these accolades at a grand dinner organised last week at the Tire Technology Expo held at Cologne in Germany. The company’s VP for Engineering Tires, Jörg Nohl and Continental Truck Tire Retreading chief for EMEA, Christian Sass received these awards on behalf of the tyre giant.

Conti Expresses Delight at Victories

Continental Tyres, Goodyear Tyres, Giti Tires and Hankook were all shortlisted in the Tyre Manufacturer of 2014 category. Nikolai Setzer, Tyre Division head and Executive Board member, Continental Tyres, expressed delight at Continental winning the coveted title. He added that Conti’s Tyre Division is, at the moment, midway on its path of realising the company’s Vision 2025. He added that, hence, the timing of the award couldn’t have been better.

Conti Strives For Continuous Excellence

Setzer acknowledged TTI’s appreciation of the efforts and success of their tyre teams worldwide in executing the company’s long-term growth agenda. He also said that Conti’s vision is not limited to the near future, and that the company is continually investing substantially in building several new tyre plants and expanding the existing ones.

Moreover, he said, Continental is extending the hi-tech testing abilities of its proving grounds while investing in new processes, technologies and premium products at the highest echelons. Mr. Setzer also said that as an official supporter of FIFA World Cup, 2014 in Brazil, and also of 2016 UEFA EURO, France, Conti is investing continuously to enhance its premium brand appeal.

Why Continental?

The TTI Awards jury decided to go for Continental among the nominees shortlisted in the Tyre Manufacturing Innovation category. The leading tyre maker emerged better than Crisplant, Micro-Poise and Japanese major, Ichimaru-Giken. TTI columnist and eminent jury member, Joe Walter, expressed his views on why Continental was chosen for the award. He stated that the jury deemed the ContiLifeCycle facility to be a win-win concept for the environment and the end-user.

Chief of Continental’s Commercial Vehicle Tires division, Dr. Andreas Esser, responded to this honour saying that Conti is thrilled at their ContiLifeCycle Plant being recognised as the Tire Manufacturing Innovation for 2014. He said that the team at Conti worked extremely hard to turn this innovative recycle-retread vision into a reality within a challenging timeframe.

Consequently, he stated, their customers have benefitted from an increasingly sustainable retreading solution, which has reached high levels of performance and product characteristics.

Among other popular awards, Bridgestone was recognised with the Tyre Technology for 2014 award for its inventive ‘ologic’ technology. Dutch firm, VMI, bagged the Tyre Industry Supplier for 2014 for its Cortexx control portal as well as its advanced Maxx tyre building equipment.
