True Blood Preview: Are Bill and Eric Going Their Separate Ways?

Last week True Blood ended with a big surprise that propels the Vampire Authority story forward, with a major element in this plot being Russell Edgington (Denis O'Hare) and it is a welcome sight to see this character revelling in his new found freedom. Sookie (Anna Paquin) continues to find out more about her abilities and if she can have a normal life, while Jason (Ryan Kwanten) is still struggling with the revelation that their parents were killed by a vampire.

The main story this week involved the Sanguinista/mainstreaming divide after Roman's (Christopher Meloni) shocking death at the hands of Russell. The episode started where we left it last week and it was quickly revealed that Salome (Valentina Cervi) was the one to release Russell and instead of wanting all the power for herself she wants to share it out. Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) are less than willing to join them, but as they are both survivors they take part in drinking Lilith's blood. This blood has the same effect on vampires as V has on humans, which leads to them taking to the streets of New Orleans in a euphoric state and then to a bar where they drain all of the people in there.

It all takes a bizarre turn when it seems like Lilith is born from the blood and she has a mystical effect over everyone. That is everyone but Eric and he sees a vision of Godric (Allan Hyde) who tells him that Eric needs to save Nora (Lucy Griffiths).

Jason is still dealing with the knowledge that his parents were murdered by a vampire and a visit to Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) doesn't help matters when he finds her feeding on a stranger. Jessica might have to watch her back when it comes to Hoyt (Jim Parrack) as he joins the hate group that has been shooting vampires and shapeshifters. This is the same group that Sam (Sam Trammell) is on the hunt for and Sam has come across one of them in the hospital where Luna (Janina Gavankar) is still a patient.

Other characters had varying degrees of a bad week with Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) almost being killed and having his mouth sewn shut in the process. Terry (Todd Lowe) still has the smoke monster after him and Patrick (Scott Foley) had to convince Terry not to kill himself. Tara (Rutina Wesley) received a visit from her mother that went as well as you can expect, but it turned into an awesome bonding moment with Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten).

Meanwhile Sookie found out that because she is only half fairy, her magic is finite and she weighed up her options about whether she should remain supernatural. By the end of the episode (and thanks to some useful flashbacks) she decided to be rid of it all and started using up her microwave finger magic; will she regret this?

The July 29 episode "Somebody That I Used to Know" is directed by none other than Bill Compton himself Stephen Moyer and the action will be heating up after the Lilith blood induced massacre. It looks like the Eric/Bill partnership (that even included a piggyback ride last night) could be coming to an end as Bill says that he is 'evolving' while Eric could try and carry out Godric's order. Jason and Sookie visit their parent’s grave and Jason searches for their killer. Sookie explains why she is trying to get rid of her fairy power; will she be successful in this endeavor? Lafayette returns to Bon Temps and uses his gift to help Terry with his smoke monster problem.
