Survivor loved ones being on an opposing tribe adds layers of social and psychological mayhem for all the players.
For Survivor Season 27, the MVA is really the MVP, or the person who played the best game for the 3 days covered in the episode. This season is one of the most unique and exciting premises of survivor where 10 returning players are playing against their loved ones and not with them, as they had believed before getting to the island. The added dimension of loved ones being on an opposing tribe adds layers of social and psychological mayhem for all the players to have to deal with. It is more interesting to watch this unfold than ever before. My last pick for MVP didn’t do so hot in this episode since poor Rupert went home first in the game. This episode, several players made key mistakes, so picking an MVP is actually quite difficult being that no one really stood out as making great strategic moves, but several players made really stupid ones.
MVA Revealed
Candace makes my choice for this week’s MVA based on her winning performance at the Redemption Island Challenge. As soon as I saw what the challenge was, I figured that a doctor would have to have the steady hands to accomplish the task, and I was right. She pretty easily completed the challenge first, keeping her spot on Redemption Island, and also winning the clue to a hidden immunity idol. Jeff Probst told her she could give it to anyone or do anything with it. She immediately gives it to her husband, John. It is really the only choice she has since “her tribe” voted her out immediately and the new dynamic in the game between family members on opposing tribes is already coming into play big time during this episode.

Runner-Up MVP
Aras gets a unique Runner-Up MVP award, not only for coming up with an excellent strategy move, but for being one of the few players to not make a huge mistake in this episode. Aras gets a 2nd place award tonight for coming up with the idea to vote out Rachel in hopes that Rachel’s boyfriend Tyson would step up to take her place at the Redemption Island Challenge. One of the new plot twists involving the blood ties aspect of the game this season is that a loved one can take the place of their family member at the Redemption Island Duel. Since Tyson is one of the best physical players on the returning team tribe, Aras is betting that Tyson will put himself in jeopardy, thereby weakening the Galang tribe.
Anti MVP Action
This article is usually about the MVP, however for this episode, so many players made so many bone-head mistakes in strategy, game play, and challenge participation; I just have to call them out!
Gervase: As if he didn’t cause enough trouble when his excessive celebration got his niece Marissa voted out last episode, he makes matters worse for himself. When Marissa tells her uncle that she was voted out because his actions after winning the immunity challenge last week “rubbed salt in their wounds”, his response was “I’m gonna’ rub some more, I promise you that”. Really? Is that the most un-modest response you could think of, Gervase? On top of that, when given the chance to take Marissa’s place in the challenge, he tells her to “handle her biz”.
John: How can this man not realize that he is putting his strong 5 man alliance in jeopardy by revealing his hesitation in voting out Rachel? Granted, we understand that he does not want Tyson to take Rachel’s place at the next Redemption Island Duel, which would be against his wife, but if there were ever a time to go with the flow, this was it and he blew it.
Rupert: Slow down, Rupert! What were you thinking, my man? I am so bummed that his poor performance in the challenge got him knocked out of the game for good. He takes it like a man, but I, for one, am very sad to see him go.
Colton: Colton, Colton, Colton! What are we going to do with this ugliness? He truly is one of the most annoying, if not THE most annoying player to ever play the game. The drama is just too much, over the top. Just like Aras pointed out, Colton was able to pretend he was someone else and that he was a changed person for a couple of days; but once the elements start to wear on you, the true colors come out. Colton is the same trouble maker he was the first time he played. He is set on turning tribe members against each other and causing chaos in general. The sooner he gets voted out, the better it is for his tribe and the viewers. Based on the scenes from next week, let’s hope that the premonitions come true and he does quit the game.
