A Sober Tailgate event will be held at Government Plaza downtown from 2 to 6 p.m. today.

The event held in honor of National Recovery Month is a family-friendly event. There will be a bounce house, pregame broadcasts, cornhole and other games, face painting and an appearance by Big Al. There will also be free Full Moon Bar-B-Que, popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones and T-shirts.

The city of Tuscaloosa will close Sixth and Seventh streets between 21st and 23rd avenues from noon until 8 p.m. for the Sober Tailgate event.

“It’s for families and will be a good way to have clean, sober fun,” said Tara Sprewell-Moore, community representative for Bradford Health Services.

The event is sponsored by the West Alabama Recovery Coalition, which includes Bradford, Indian Rivers Mental Health Center, Phoenix House, Self-Recovery, North Harbor Pavilion, Celebrate Recovery and the University of Alabama Collegiate Recovery Community.
