Musician and Model: Asami Zdrenka
Was singing always the plan for you?
I always wanted to do it but I never felt like I was able too – when you grow up and see these pop stars it’s always made out to be a difficult industry. When I auditioned to be in Jungle I thought I’d just go along and see if I could get in, and I did and it was really cool. I was doing music at college too, I’ve always loved singing.
How would you describe your sound?
The music I grew up listening to was on the rock side of things. I’m definitely incorporating that into my music now – live guitars and things like that. I guess it’s just like edgy pop.
What’s your all-time favourite karaoke song?
Everyone’s got to love a bit of Celine Dion – “My Heart Will Go On”. I can’t really sing it, it’s a bit too high for me. I leave those notes for other people!
Instagram Artist, Blogger and Model: Charlie Barker
Did you get scouted through Instagram?
I did, yeah. It’s helped in that sense too. I used to put my make up on in my bedroom and be like, ‘I’m going to be a model!’ My mum would just be like, ‘No, you’re not!’ Then a London-based scout contacted me through Instagram.
So would you say Instagram is a big part of your work and life?
Ultimately, yes. As sad as it is, with my generation that’s how you’re going to become successful. I’m quite lucky because I started it at the right time, and now I’ve got this huge platform to put my art out on.
Tell us about your art…
I never did before, but when I started university I started passing my Instagram as my work. I’m doing paintings of movie stills at the minute; I’ve just done a Girl, Interrupted one with Angelina Jolie.

How old were you when you were scouted? Do you enjoy modelling?
I was 14, then I started doing fashion weeks when I was 17 or 18. Yeah I enjoy it, I like the fact that I can use it to do other things, modelling presents so many other opportunities to you. You get to meet so many interesting people and you get to do so much interesting stuff. What I don’t like, is getting my hair done during fashion week – getting your hair done three times a day is never fun!
What’s the craziest look you’ve had done?
Last season the style was bird nests. I was lucky because I had a weave in, so obviously it wasn’t my own hair. I felt sorry for everyone else with their real hair. They sprayed it with hairspray, crimped it, curled it, and then they brushed it out, backcombed it, then hairsprayed it again. The worst thing is when you have to get on the tube with show hair and everyone is looking at you!

How long have you been modelling for?
I got scouted when I was 15 in Stockholm and I’m 20 now. I started modelling full time a year ago when I finished high school.
What’s the best shoot you’ve done to date?
I just love going on trips, because whether you know the people before hand or not, you just grow into a family even if its only two or three days. Normally in this job you only work with a team for one day at a time, so whenever it’s longer you get super close.
What do you miss about Sweden now that you’re living in London?
What I miss about Stockholm is the style; everyone dresses so nicely so you’re always inspired by the way people dress. People here inspire too, but in Stockholm there is a certain standard. Even if it’s raining, snowing or there’s a storm people will still dress nicely.

So what made you decide to start your blog?
It’s something my sister and I had always thought about doing but I guess we had never been in the same place for long enough to do it. We just felt like it was the right time to start in the summer, but it’s taken off so much quicker than we ever imagined or dreamed.
Do both of you (you and your sister) take all of the photos for the blog?
For most of it yeah, we shoot it. We just did a collaboration with NARS, so for big projects like that we’ll beg a photographer friend to shoot, there’s no way we could make it look that good alone!
What’s the best piece of beauty advice you’ve ever been given?
Coconut oil – I use it on everything. My skin, my face, my hair! For oil pulling too, you rinse the coconut oil around in your mouth and it whitens and cleans your teeth. It’s amazing.

Do you have a beauty icon?
I love Gwen Stefani – because she’s always so immaculate and she’s got a signature style, I couldn’t personally wear that much make up every day but she’s iconic to me. I feel like she’s always been on point, she’s always pristine. Then on the other end of the spectrum, someone like Frieda Kahlo – who never touched her eyebrows, wore a bit of eyeliner and kept it cracking.
How did you get into vlogging?
I finished my masters degree and I didn’t want to work for anyone else. I had a lot of people asking me what I was wearing or what I had on my face, so I thought give people a destination where I can answer all the FAQs.
Who’s your biggest inspiration? Do you watch other beauty vlogs?
Lisa Eldridge is the queen of beauty tutorials and I love her style. I also love Charlotte Tilbury, I think she’s so eccentric and wonderful. From new school artists I love Wayne Goss and the LA make up artists that do the Kardashians. I would never wear that much makeup myself but I think it’s flawless to look at, it’s a real skill. The colour correcting, the concealing – it’s an art form.
