Truckin’ Movers has been honored to provide free household move quote requests since 1976.  We offer the following tips to help you make the most of obtaining quotes for your upcoming move.

1. Gather data.

Be prepared to answer questions on your origin and destination zip codes, the square footage or number of rooms you are moving and your anticipated move date.  Think about any unusual furniture or other items (such as a car) you may need to move.

2. Clear your schedule.

Identify days and times that you can be available to meet with movers on site at your origin address to conduct a move inventory.  Be wary of any mover who does not conduct an on site visit prior to providing you with a move quote.

3. Start the process early.

Logistical planning and move strategies benefit from thorough, detailed analysis. The sooner a professional mover can begin to work with you, the more effective they can be in insuring a high-quality move at an affordable rate.  We recommend that you contact a professional mover as soon as you plan to move, and at least thirty to sixty-days of notice is ideal.

4. Remember the busy move season.

If you are moving in the months of May through September be aware that this time period represents the busy season for move companies and that shipping schedules can quickly fill.  It’s particularly important to plan ahead if you are moving over the summer.

5. Research move companies.

Ask your friends and family for recommendations, check online reviews, read through the company’s web site and verify licensing.  When vetting moving companies, we recommend that you inform yourself about more than the bottom-line move quote.  An effective move team is comprised of experienced, well trained and well cared for career professionals.

6. Request move quotes from several companies.

A professional mover should conduct a site visit, take an inventory and provide you with a detailed move quote in writing.  There should not be a charge for this service.  Choose at least three companies from your research and call them to schedule a move quote.

7. Pick up the phone.

Most movers offer online quote request forms, but we encourage you to pick up the phone and call in your request.  Particularly during the busy move season, starting with a phone call gets your dialogue with a mover opened that much sooner.
