[5][6] A blue heavy goods vehicle and a pedestrian were involved.

Niall had been walking from the north of Lincoln. The HGV was travelling on the east bound lane out of Lincoln.

He was wearing blue jeans, a dark coloured top and brown shoes. Friends have since paid tribute to the “big character” on social media.[7] Roslyn Grady wrote: “I literally can’t believe I’m writing this.

I’m absolutely heartbroken, losing one of my best friends so suddenly is the worst thing I’ve experienced. “Niall Walsh what an absolute treasure you were to my life. Have got so many memories and drunken times with you that I’ll never ever forget.

Chantelle Atkinson Storey said: “Such devastating news. Glad I had the opportunity to work with you and call you a friend. Had some amazing times.

Definitely were a big character. Thoughts are with your family.” A resident living in nearby Reepham spoke to Lincolnshire Live prior to Niall being identified.

Dawn Davison, 34, had seen tyre marks on the road following the crash. She said: “It was quite haunting knowing what had happened there. “It’s an awful road.

The road isn’t dangerous, it’s the way people drive. “My heart goes out to the family and I hope they are okay. I would not want him to suffer.

It’s sad when it’s so close to home. Life is too short.” Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and anyone who was travelling in the area between Lincoln and Sudbrooke, on the A158, between 2am and 3.30am to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.
