First I am not quite sure if I should ask Overflow community, or the Ubuntu. There are some VMWare questions, and the ubuntu forums do not have anything recent.

I've read the instructions from VMWare, but they describe installation from an iso. I installed VMWare from apt-get and can login into the windows client successfully.

So my problem is that I'm not able to share folders to the Windows Client Virtual Machine via VMWare ran on a linux host system.

I have installed VMWare successfully and can run the Windows client successfully.

However, I am very confused on how to share a folder.

there are two ways that I am inquiring about

1) sharing a file from a USB file. https://stegsolutions.com/getting-the-vmware-horizon-view-2-3-client-installed-in-ubuntu-14-04-with-usb-support/

I have a hgfs folder in my /mnt directory.

when I issue this command /usr/bin/vmware-hgfsclient to find the mount directory it comes up empty

so I'm not sure if the mount directory is detected.

The issue I am having is that I can not create a socket for VMWare

here is my /etc/vmware/config file, I have added viewusb.InculdeFamily= "storage" to the config file

How do I properly create a socket for VMWare to mount a shared folder directory from my linux laptop to windows client ?

this directory does exist on my system /var/run/vmware/usbarbitrator
