Once a small farming community, Peoria has become one of Arizona’s largest cities. With excellent schools, quality employment opportunities, numerous sports facilities and world-class entertainment options, the Phoenix suburb has even grabbed the attention of national publications like Money magazine, which listed it among the 100 “Best Places to Live” in 2008.
In addition to the wonderful big-city amenities, Peoria also boasts a world of recreational opportunities, as it rests on the northwest edge of Phoenix, next to the beautiful Calderwood Butte and expansive Lake Pleasant – the state’s second largest lake. From hiking and biking along the city’s 35 miles of trails to boating and water skiing at the lake, Peoria is an outdoor-lover’s paradise.
Sounds like an oasis in the desert, right? That’s exactly what we thought when we decided to build our Northlands community in the heart of this beautiful city. While we could go on all day about what makes this place so great, we figure it’s best to hear from those who live it everyday.

Lake Pleasant – Just 20 minutes from the Northlands community, Lake Pleasant is the perfect escape for friends and family looking to enjoy the great outdoors. The Pleasant Harbor Marina offers a restaurant, bar, store, boat and kayak rentals, and even a concierge service to help you plan your day.
Lakeside Bar & Grill – Located just one mile from the Northlands community, this sophisticated “Lakeside” atmosphere is one of the Northwest Valley’s top local spots. Whether celebrating a special occasion or just meeting the neighbors, the Lakeside Bar & Grill is the perfect local venue. The restaurant has two comfortable patios and offers an array of menu options, including fresh Mexican, Italian and American favorites.
Calderwood Butte – Northlands residents enjoy easy access to the Calderwood Butte, which practically rests in their backyard. Peaking at 1,611 feet, the mountain features a number of hiking trails perfect for all experience levels.
Challenger Space Station – This public museum is one of only three Smithsonian Institution Affiliates in the greater Phoenix area. The station offers quality exhibits and programs, including simulated space missions that allow people of all ages to experience flying to space with flight crews, mission controllers and scientists. On weekends, the Challenger Space Station also hosts entertaining and interactive astronomy nights that are fun for the whole family.
Peoria Sports Complex – The first Major League Baseball spring training and development center shared by two teams, Peoria Sports Complex hosts both the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners every spring. Games are inexpensive and fun for the whole family. In addition to the spring training games, the complex also hosts a variety of other local baseball leagues, concerts, art shows, car and RV shows, bike races, outdoor wedding and receptions, group events and charity fundraisers.
