When my sisters and I were growing up, we didn’t just celebrate our birthday on one day, we had an entire week of little festivities that truly made each one of us feel special. Very rarely did we receive actual gifts during the week (a small candy or toy, maybe), raising three active girls can get pricey! Instead, my mother would send sweet little notes in our lunch bag, give the birthday girl full reign of the TV for a night, or cook our favorite dinner. Now that I’m repeating the tradition with my boys, I realize just how exhausting it is to plan a full weeks worth of birthday surprises but the payback in joy and memories is priceless!

So, yeah, I’m a big fan of celebrating birthdays. That’s why I was more than happy to join forces with Kristen Duke in her Birthday Celebration Week along with over 100 talented bloggers sharing lots of inexpensive ideas and free printables! Today I’ll be showing you how to make your own foaming bath bombs as easy birthday gifts. If you don’t have the time to make one, fret not! Just pick up a store bought one and add my free “You Da Bomb” Birthday Gift Tag. Because really? Who doesn’t love to be pampered on their birthday!

Materials:

1 Cup Baking Soda

1/2 Cup Citric Acid (found in canning section)

1/2 Cup Corn Starch

2 Tbsp Epsom Salt

2 Tbsp Coconut Oil

6 Tbsp Water

Few Drops of Tangerine Essential Oil and/or Peach Soap Dye (or food coloring)

Fillable Christmas Ball Ornament

Instructions:

1. Add all the dry ingredients to a bowl and mix well.

2. Using your hands or a whisk, add the coconut oil. Thoroughly mix to evenly disperse the oil. You’re looking for the consistency of clumpy sand, if that helps! If you have a spray bottle available, put 6 tbsp of water into it with a few drops of essential oil and soap dye or food coloring. I used Tangerine EO and Peach soap dye but you can use anything you have on hand! If you don’t have a spray bottle, just try to splatter the water into the dry mixture a teaspoon at at a time. Don’t worry if it starts to fizz a bit, that’s just the citric acid working!

3. Continue spraying/splattering your dry materials and mixing until you can gather a bit in your hand and it sticks together like damp sand. Don’t add too much water or your bath bomb won’t fizz up for the birthday girl!

4. Tightly pack both sides of the Christmas ornament and then press together. Allow to dry for 1 hour before removing from mold. Place the Birthday Bath Bomb on counter and allow to dry overnight.

Easy as pie…or should I say “Easy as birthday cake?” You can package the bath bomb in clear cellophane wrap and top with my free “You Da Bomb” gift tag. Add a pretty piece of baker’s twine and you’re good to go! These bath bombs make super easy birthday gifts that you can hang on the door of a neighbor, co-worker, or friend. You know they’ll love any excuse to take a relaxing birthday bath!

As for the other creative ideas, a lot of these gifts are versatile for any occasion, and can be a to gift to your friends, family, or even that gal that you’d like to get to know better. Even more fabulous–most gifts are under $5, and have coordinating printables to make it super simple!
