ATLANTA, GA—(Marketwired – June 17, 2015) – Synensis has been selected by The Society for Quality in Healthcare in Nigeria (SQHN) to lead its Quality and Patient Safety Certification Program, the company announced today. The engagement tasks Synensis with the administration of an intensive professional development course that was kicked off May 19–20 in Lagos, Nigeria, for those passionate about quality and patient safety in the healthcare field in Nigeria. SQHN has been at the forefront of promoting quality and patient safety in Nigeria for several years and introducing the professional developmental course in line with its strategy of capacity building within the healthcare community.

SQHN is involved in facilitating training and continuing education in healthcare quality. It does this through various platforms including seminars, workshops, lectures, publishing of newsletters and journals. Due to the identified knowledge gap in healthcare quality, the Society has decided to contribute toward educating healthcare practitioners and the public on the practices of quality through the SQHN Institute of Quality with Introduction to Quality & Patient Safety Certification Program.

“We are delighted to have been chosen for such an important assignment,” said Stephen Powell, chief executive officer and president of Synensis. “This is a further demonstration of SQHN's serious and ongoing commitment to improving quality and patient safety across all of the healthcare facilities in Nigeria. We are honored to help this nation develop a culture of safety throughout all of its healthcare facilities.”

The Society of Quality in Healthcare in Nigeria was formed to help individual healthcare providers learn the foundational skills of quality management and patient safety. The program will be kicked off with a two–day seminar followed by 90 days of intensive training. The three–month program will cover a wide range of quality and patient safety topics and will be highlighted by attendance at required monthly webinars to be presented on:

Improving team communication and cooperation

Leadership practices that promote patient safety

Using information and measurement to improve patient safety

The course will also feature the creation of a customized action plan for project implementation as well as a thorough, final examination. Upon successful completion, graduates will be awarded certificates from the SQHN Institute of Quality.

“The mission of the SQHN is to lead, advocate, and facilitate the continuous improvement of quality and safety in healthcare in Nigeria through education, collaboration, training, and accreditation,” said Executive Board President E.A. Elebute. “We are looking forward to working closely with Synensis on this very important program.”
