Moscow has been voted the unfriendliest city in the world, according to a survey conducted by Travel and Leisure.
An annual survey conducted by the website based on readers’ votes on 266 cities has highlighted the cities that fail to warm tourist’s hearts based on their access to art and culture to the friendliness of their people.

While it may have been labeled among the fastest growing tourist destinations in the world, according to MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index, Moscow topped the list of the world’s unfriendliest cities.
Survey participants characterised the city as generally ‘aloof’ and found the locals unhelpful.
The US did not fare well on the survey either with many American cities finding a spot on the unfriendly list. The list also featured some French and Middle Eastern cities. Atlantic City in New Jersey ranked second on the list with one visitor commenting, “It’s fun – if you like to gamble and don’t mind rude, fast-paced people.”

French cities, Marseilles and Cannes made it on the list on number four and 10 respectively. While more accommodating than Paris in terms of friendliness of the locals, visitors found Marseilles, France ‘unkempt and gritty.’
New York city ranks sixth on the list with users complaining about the unkindness of the locals to strangers. One voter stated that “people are not exactly the kindest to strangers.” “New York has everything—just don’t ask a person in the street to help you find it.” However, despite the frustration visitors find New York worth the visit.
