The ministry targets, in this context, conducting audit for 550 factories in 2014.

Regarding the oil sector, the achievements made by Qatar Petroleum and its subsidiaries formed a new addition to the energy sector in the state, where project Helium 2, was opened with a cost of QR1.53bn making Qatar one of the largest helium producers in the world.

Among Qatar Petroleum recent achievements is awarding the contract of the preliminary study for engineering works and designs for Alkraana Petrochemicals complex, a joint venture Shell Qatar.

It includes an international standard cracking steam factory that gets feedstock from natural gas projects in Qatar, a factory to produce 1.5 million tonnes per year of mono ethylene glycol using Shell OMEGA technology and unit for producing 300,000 metric tonnes per year of linear Alpha olefin, and 250,000 tons per year of OXO products.

Qatar Petroleum Wintershall company, last year, discovered a new gas field in Zone 4 North, in the territorial waters of the State of Qatar. Separately QP signed with two Japanese companies, an agreement on establishing an integrated complex for the extraction of polybutadiene and a plastics factory in Ras Laffan Industrial City.

QP also signed with Honeywell UOP a joint research agreement on the process of removing Carbon dioxide and sulfur compounds from natural gases.  Qatar Intermediate Industries (Alwaseeta) and Qatar Korea LED Consortium (QKLC) signed a joint-venture agreement for the establishment of a light-emitting diode (LED) systems manufacturing facility in the country. Under the agreement, the facility will be 75% owned by Alwaseeta and 25% owned by QKLC, and is expected to have an initial production capacity of 155,000 LED units per year.

The project is scheduled to be implemented in two phases, with the first phase covering construction of the LED manufacturing plant by 2016. Under the second phase, the companies will install LED chip packaging.

Among the achievements in the oil and gas sector was QP’s announcement on plans to invest over 40 billion Qatari Riyals in the re-development of the existing Bul Hanine offshore oil field located about 120 kilometers to the east of the Qatari coastline.

The project, which is currently at the pre-FEED stage, is one of the largest to be managed and executed by QP. It is designed to prolong the field’s life by countering its production decline and doubling its current oil production rate.  Exporting 475 million tonnes of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in 3800 shipments since 1997, puts QatarGas on the top of the industry’s masters list.
