It’s not often that a simple emergency call turns into an adoption. During a trip to the hospital, a firefighter actually delivered a newborn baby girl who he would be adopting. But how did that happen?
Firefighter Marc Hadden was called out for an emergency call in Myrtle Beach to help save a pregnant woman and take her to the nearest hospital. The hospital was too far away, forcing Hadden to perform an immediate delivery through his own actions. Little did he know that he was going to be delivering the newest addition to his family.
After the woman was dropped at the hospital, it was made known to the firefighter that the new born child, a girl, was going to be directly put up for adoption or put through the system. Already a father of two, Hadden couldn’t just stand by to watch another child go through a system where she might never find a loving family.
With his wife’s approval and support, Hadden made the decision to take the baby and to adopt her. Beth, Hadden’s wife told the press that her husband was completely in shock after helping the woman give birth.
She told the press, “He called me and he was ecstatic. I mean, he delivered a baby and who in the world gets to deliver a baby in their lifetime that’s not a doctor?”
The mother also stated, “Ever since we had the boys, we knew that we wanted more children, but I was preterm with them, so we knew that it wasn’t possible to have any more babies. And we had it in our minds and in our hearts for years to adopt, and we just left it in God’s hands. We said if it’s meant to be, it will be.”
This story is actually quite familiar because it is the initial plot of the NBC hit show, This Is Us. The firefighter in the show brings an orphaned and neglected child home with him to adopt since his wife can no longer have children. But, the show doesn’t end with a firefighter adoption, as the firefighter’s wife doesn’t want him to adopt the child. This real life story actually ended much happier for this firefighter.
It has been almost five years since the daughter, Gracie, was adopted by Marc and Beth Hadden. The family’s story touched many people in their community, including contractor Buddy Satterfield. Their neighborhood reached out to the family after their story went viral, and paid for a home extension for the baby.
Marc Hadden responded to this generosity by saying, “I don’t know what we would have done because we have definitely outgrown our home. So we’re just truly blessed to have friends that will pull together for us like this.”
Even though Marc was simply answering a firefighting call, he received one of the biggest blessings of this life. This story proves that sometimes life has many wonderful and happy surprises in store.
