Here is a summary of the key decisions made by Council at the 9 June ordinary meeting:

Development

Mr C Accatino’s request for a material change of use for a caravan park located at 8 Peeramon Road, Peeramon is approved subject to conditions.

Council will subsidise the construction of a footpath at 19 Eacham Road Yungaburra, in accordance with Council’s Footpath Paving Policy, up to a maximum value of $5,000.

North Queensland Sports Foundation

Councillor Anthony Ball will be nominated as Tablelands Regional Council’s delegate for the North Queensland Sports Foundation and also nominated for a Director position with the organisation.

Updated Policies

Council has adopted a new Councillor Staff Interaction Policy and acceptable request guidelines which outlines how information, advice and assistance will be provided.

A Customer Request Management Policy providing guidance when receiving, identifying, creating, administering and managing internal and external service requests is also endorsed.

Picnic Crossing Road

Access to Picnic Crossing Road South is via Marks Lane, with the access onto Gillies Highway closed following recent upgrade works undertaken by the Department of Transport and Main Roads. Council does not support a recommendation to install a gated fence across Picnic Crossing Road South to prevent illegal access to the Gillies Highway at a cost of $2,000.

Ravenshoe GPS Base Station

Council supports a request from the Department of Transport and Main Roads to relocate the Ravenshoe GPS Base Station from Council’s Ravenshoe Depot to the Ravenshoe Town Hall, with the associated costs to be incurred by the Department.

Malanda High School Parking & Access Review

Council will install public advisory signage on Memorial Drive to formalise the bus parking, commercial access, visitor and staff parking areas, with associated costs to be incurred by Malanda High School. Proposed roadwork upgrades to Memorial Drive will be listed within the current Project Prioritisation Tool as part of the future capital works program.

Elected Member Training

Councillors are authorised to attend training offered by LGAQ Total Solutions – Elected Member Program where the training is offered in Cairns or other locations within Far North Queensland.

Atherton Aerodrome

Council will apply section 236(1)c(iii) of the Local Government Regulation 2012 to enter into a Trustee Lease for Site C Atherton Aerodrome (Lease C on SP120076 within lot 553 on NR5363) with John Cross and Jennifer Thorley for a term of thirty years with rental at market valuation.

De-amalgamation Cash Split

Council will transfer the final balance of $5,605,029.60 payable to Mareeba Shire Council, following the de-amalgamation cash split determination and other matters.

The next Council meeting will be held on Thursday 23 June starting at 9am in the Atherton Boardroom. All members of the public are welcome to attend.
