Here is a summary of the key decisions made by Council at the 8 September ordinary meeting.

Development

The Malanda benefitted sewerage area will be expanded to include 6 Monash Avenue from 1 January 2017.

Council will prepare a Local Government Infrastructure Plan in accordance with the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 and has amended the adopted infrastructure charges to provide a consistent approach to dual occupancies and secondary dwellings.

Tropical Tablelands Tourism

An updated three year Memorandum of Understanding with Tropical Tablelands Tourism is endorsed, with funding of $30,800 (excluding GST) provided for the 2016/2017 financial year to market the region.

Consultative Committee

Mayor Joe Paronella will be nominated to the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Services community consultation committee to provide feedback and advice on local health care services.

Steering Committee

The Southern Atherton Tablelands Irrigation Development and Flood Mitigation Steering Committee has been disbanded. Councillors acknowledge and thank the committee members and community drivers for their hard work and dedication in advocating for the development of the Southern Tablelands region. Hinchinbrook Shire Council and Herbert River Improvement Trust will work with TRC to advance the National Water Infrastructure Development Fund Grant Deed. A strategic advisor will be sought to assist with project management and negotiation with the funding bodies to potentially include flood mitigation and power generation possibilities as part of the feasibility study.

Policy Amendment

The Councillor Remuneration, Expenses Reimbursement and Resources Policy has been amended to provide limited private use of a Council vehicle by the Mayor and reimbursement to Councillors for professional development training within the allocated budget.

B-Double Access

Council consents to the application by Richers Transport Pty Ltd to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator for B-Double access to the first 900m of Tully Falls Road in Ravenshoe subject to the B-Double movements being limited to two trips per week, and not between 7am to 9am or 2pm to 4pm.

Tolga Traffic Congestion

Mayor Joe Paronella, Cr Bronwyn Voyce, Cr Samantha Banks and Council officers are working with Tolga State School representatives and community members regarding traffic congestion on Catherine and Main Streets in Tolga. Concept drawings and considerations are being investigated and will be presented for community engagement in the near future.

Listening Post

Cr Annette Haydon, Cr Kate Eden and Council officers will be available during the Torimba Festival in Ravenshoe to receive feedback and provide information on opportunities and services. Details of the Listening Post will be promoted on www.trc.qld.gov.au and Facebook.

Next Meeting

The next Council meeting will be held on Thursday 22 September starting at 9am in the Atherton Boardroom. All members of the public are welcome to attend.
