2013-11-26

This year again I’m happy to announce I’m participating in the travel blogger’s fundraiser, Passports with Purpose.

Each year the Passports With Purpose founders select a charity based on several criteria along with our sense of what would inspire us and the Travel Bloggers community.

Here’s how it works –  The 2013 online fundraising event will run from November 25, 2013 at 11:59pm EST and end on December 9, 2013 at 11:59pm EST. During that time you will be able to donate $10 on the catalog of prizes. Donating more lets you choose more prizes or increase your odds of winning the exact prize you want. At the end of the fundraiser Passports with Purpose will randomly choose the winners. Over the past five years, this amazing organization has raised $100,000 to fund projects including Heifer International, build a School in Cambodia, and in 2012, Passports with Purpose raised over USD $110,000 for Water.org through the collaborative efforts of more than 200 travel bloggers and 1,242 individual donors who bid on one or more of the 143 prizes . To me, the fact that each year the donations get larger and larger mean more people are reaching out to help as our travel blogging community grows, and nothing puts a smile on my face like knowing that together we are making a difference in someone’s lives.

This year I have a fabulous prize to giveaway that is really cool- a Scottevest Men’s or Women’s Travel Vest!

This year the goal of Passports with Purpose is  to raise $115,000 to construct three primary schools and fund three Adult Literacy Programs in the Sikasso Region of Mali, Africa, with the help of buildOn.

About BuildOn:

For more than two decades buildOn has mobilized rural villages in some of the poorest countries on the planet to build more than 500 schools. buildOn constructs schools in Mali, Malawi, Senegal, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Nepal where school construction and educating children are vital components to long-term economic growth and sustainability. Research shows there would be a 12% drop in global poverty if all students in low-income countries left school with basic reading skills.

My favorite thing to do while growing up was read and to this date I am still a bookworm. Children should all have the ability to learn to read as it helps with their imaginations and is just the most basic of needs. I am sure we can help out so that buildOn and Passports with Purpose can help build these schools and also fund the Literacy Programs.

Now that you have all the details, head on over and donate to win this awesome prize! While you’re at it, you can donate to win any number of prizes available, so don’t delay as the deadline is December 9th, 2013. With your help we will make this year the best yet!

This is such a great fundraiser and there will be so many prizes to choose from, so please donate whatever you can. On December 16th I’ll notify the winner!
