Greece is one of the favorite summer holiday destinations. With tens of islands it boasts thousands of beaches. And each one of them is greater than the other. However, here is our top with only ten choices. Which one would you like to visit?

1. Myrtos Beach, Kefalonia

Just look at that luminous blue water! No wonder that Myrtos has received the best Greek beach award twelve times! The wonderful place is often regarded as Greece’s most dramatic beach. Its shores, covered in white smooth pebbles, is rinsed by the warm and crystal clear Ionian Sea. Embedded between two mountains – Agia Dynati and Kalon Oros – Myrtos provides an intimate recluse location to relax.

Why to go there?: One of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. Spectacular surroundings, lush greenery, white sand and turquoise water provide a great day on the beach. Several tavernas and a beach bar provide vacationers with refreshing drinks and snacks.

2. Balos Beach, Crete

Posited on the north western part of the island, the beach fascinated with an incredible landscape. Its crystal clear water boasts a fusion of colors, reflecting a soft sand underneath. The uninhabited island of Gramvoussa with a Medieval Castle is seen in the horizon.

Why to go there?: The beach more popular than the secluded Amoudi, however, its beauty is breathtaking. It can be reached by boat from Chania Town and Kissamos or by car via a road.

3. Chalkidiki

On the mainland the Cholomontas mountains lie and stretch towards the North. Meanwhile white sandy beaches and crystal clear water welcome fortunate vacationers. There are numerous beaches peppered along the coastline. Therefore tourists can choose from a wide variety of beach towns, resorts and hotels. Some villages serve as a quiet getaway for the sun bathers and swimmers, while others have a number of night clubs and really busy night life.

Why to go there?: Great beaches and resorts, a lot of ancient architecture and rich cultural heritage. Mountains also provide great hiking trails and unspoiled natural sites.

4. Simos Beach, Elafonisos

The bay boasts a stretch of golden soft sand, surrounded with crystal clear water. The are no bars, restaurants or tavernas, therefore one can enjoy unspoiled nature and be besotted by it. It even gets better: there is no public transportation to take you there, so you will have to get a private car. However, the place is worth to work for it.

Why to go there?: The pristine beach is surrounded with very well preserved nature. The environment promises a tranquil getaway and great bathing in the warm bay.

5. Porto Katsiki, Lefkada

In Greek Porto Katsiki means „the port of the goats“. It is regarded the most beautiful beach on the island. On the top of the hill one will find a car parking lot and a few bars, where exhilirating refreshments can be found. Meanwhile a sandy paradise opens up once descended from the hill.

Why to go there?: Lefkada is a beautiful island in the Ionian Sea, famous for its culture and theater festivals. There are numerous beaches as well as entertaining events.

6. Assos, Kefalonia

A beautiful and peaceful village in one of the Greek islands offers a perfect holiday retreat. A horseshoe-shaped bay has a harbor and a beach, where vacationers and locals gather to enjoy the sun and warm clear water. The hill in Assos with the houses, cypress, pine trees and a 16th century fortress on top defines the village. Many tavernas offer fresh sea food and traditional Greek cuisine.

Why to go there?: A romantic retreat, surrounded with unspoiled nature, a place to swim and enjoy sunshine. The quiet village is especially suitable for those, who want to escape the bigger resorts or cities and find a beautiful place to relax.

7. Astypalaia

One of the Dodecanese islands group in the warm Aegean Sea, Astypalaia is another gorgeous, but relatively undiscovered gem. It features various archaeological sites and intact treasures from the classical period that are open to view. The island’s landscape features white houses clustered together on the hills, overlooking the sea. Great beaches provide a nice leisurely day out, while restaurants will spoil with fresh sea food and wine.

Why to go there?: The island has very interesting museums and sites, heritage from the Hellenistic and early Christian times, pristine beaches and is less crowded than Santorini or Mykonos. The site also provides various other activities like climbing, biking, hiking, scuba diving and even camping at Chora.

8. Agios Sostis, Mykonos

The cove boasts turquoise warm water, which is quite shallow making it very easy to swim and enjoy water fun. The soft sand makes it a great escape from the busy center. There is also a taverna, which offers delicious Greek food, that is as authentic as it could get.

Why to go there?: The beautiful surroundings make it a truly nice escape. Mykonos is quite rocky, so this sort of beach is a true gem for the bathers.

9. Naxos, Cyclades Island Group

The island is less touristy compared to its famous neighbors Santorini and Mykonos, yet that might be the most satisfying thing about it. One can find much more authenticity, fields of olive trees, fishing business and archeological wonders as well. The island boasts a great natural diversity – from high mountains, marble quarries, fertile valleys to striking beaches – there is a lot to discover here.

Why to go there?: Naxos is really good for those, who want to relax on the beach as well as to participate in a variety of outdoor activities. It also provides rich historic heritage to be discovered.

10. Amoudi Beach, Crete

One of the most popular islands boasts Ancient architecture, huddled on the rocky hills and crystal clear waters. Its center is always busy, while nature is unspoiled and promising a true relaxation. Amoudi is a soft sandy beach, embraced by rocks from the both sides. The crystal clear water is warm and great for swimming.

Why to go there?: The cove is a perfect haven for a tranquil getaway and summer fun. It is best suited for a lazy day on the beach.
