Emerald Isle - Day 6 - Emerald Isle, NC
Emerald Isle, NC
Hi everyone. Well, we have been busy doing the things people on vacation do: sightseeing, eating out, walking along the beach, sitting by the pool, and just relaxing. It has been a great week. Unfortunately we only have one more day here. Sandy and Yvonne have been great tour guides as they have visited this area before. We have been to Morehead City to enjoy the great food at The Sanitary Restaurant (http://www.sanitaryfishmarket.com). We all ordered seafood and I had the chance to try a soft shelled crab - delicious! We also went to Beaufort where we walked around the quaint city and enjoyed the views from the waterfront. We even took a boat ride which took us along the waterfront of Beaufort and Morehead City. It took us past Carrot Island (http://beaufortnc.blogspot.com/2007/08 /carrot-island-rachel-carson-estuarine. html) where we saw wild horses. And it took us past Fort Macon. Jeff and I were even able to take a turn at the wheel of the boat with Captain Farmer keeping a close eye on things. Yesterday we went to the Aquarium and to Fort Macon State Park (http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/fom a/main.php). We were able to walk around the Fort, which has been preserved and open to the public. Jeff and I have also checked out some of the rental properties here but have not found anything we liked within our budget. As expected, if we want water views, we have to pay the price. I think the part I have enjoyed the most is the wide open view across the Atlantic. Walking the beach front every day has been relaxing but a workout. We walk in about calf-deep to thigh-deep water anchoring our steps as the waves crash into us. Our legs are sore by the time we are done. While the water is cool and refreshing, the walk back across the sand in bare feet to get to the boardwalk is another thing. The sand is so hot that it feels like walking on coals (at least I think that is how it would feel). After our walk, we go back to the condo, grab our beach towels and head to the pool, book and/or IPod in hand. Sandy and Yvonne have been working half days so that gives Jeff and I the time to just enjoy the beach and pool. Other than the first day of arrival, the weather has been beautiful with lots of sunshine. Even the humidity hasn't been too bad. Here are some of the pictures I took during our sightseeing trips and just around the condo. Until later...
