International Falls and Voyagers Natl Park - Intl Falls MN, MN

Intl Falls MN, MN

Where I stayed

Fortune Bay RV Resort & Casino

We left Duluth and proceeded over the mountain ridge towards Grand Rapids. We thought we would visit the Forest History Center. Since it was Monday it was closed.. We then drove a not very interesting road up to International Falls on the border with Canada. The town was not as large as we expected but was obviously busy with lots of trucks and people crossing the border. The headquarters of Voyagers National Park are here and it too was closed but due to the sequester (you'd think they could find another time with such a short summer season). Although we had been driving most of the day and not seen very much except farmland and small lakes we decided to go a little further. We stopped at Lake Vermillion and visited the Fortune Bay Indian Casino. This was a pretty large casino with several restaurants and we noted quite a lot of new development in the area. The casino also had an RV campground with hookups from which we could walk to the casino. Lake Vermilion is a fairly large lake with Voyagers park to the west and Boundary Waters to the north.
