Got up, showered and had some breakfast (a cheese and ham baguette) with Sara. Went back to the bungalow and decorated our improvised Xmas tree with the tinsel we bought the day before and anything else we could find in our packs which was shiny, my contributions were a small change purse, my silver and gold coloured pen, 1 gram bar of gold, Thai SIM card and a fake Lego Ironman figure. Sara attached earrings, chrome eyelash curlers, a USB thing and various other bits. Also made a paper chain and in the night we got all out torches and anything with translucent coloured plastic and made some impromptu Xmas lights. At about 11am we sat out in the sun for a couple of hours on the edge of the river then went for food at a restaurant where we hoped to get a reasonable WIFI connection (wifi is pretty ****** everywhere in Laos). I had a green curry, the first one in a while, yum! Went and got some more sun (my tan from southern Thailand has all but disappeared since I did my foot in, grrr). In the evening we set up the Christmas tree and improvised some lights out of the various gizmos we had lying about, not a bad result if I do say so myself! Then we gave our presents to each other, Sara got me a dry wallet for my camera, a Buddhist good luck charm and a key ring made from a bomb case (Laos got bombed more than any other country in the 1960s by the USA) in the shape of a dove. I got Sara a Tshirt (I had to actually get her to buy it not having a clue re sizes or styles) which I decorated with red permanent marker in the style of an album cover from one of her favourite bands. See pics Later we headed out to see if we could get a Christmas buffet, as is the style I Sweden on the 24th December. However the only one we found was scheduled for 25th December so we decided to shelve the buffet until then. In place of a buffet we went to a place which does 'happy' food (i.e. shrooms) I had a normal pizza bread and a special pineapple shake. What followed for me was a mini version of Fear and loathing in Las Vegas (Sara does not do that kind of thing herself). She most certainly had the right idea, never.....again!
