Singapore Sling Part 1 - Singapore, Singapore

Singapore, Singapore

So we arrived at Changi airport and the first thing that hits you is how clean, tidy, calm & organised Singapore is, slightly different from the rest of South East Asia!! The second thing that hits you is that it all comes at a price!! Local beer has become our standard cost comparison on our travels ie; Thailand Chang (£1), Cambodia Anchor (70p), Vietnam Bai Hoi (9p), Singapore Any (£10)!!!!! Ouch, Haha!!
The main purpose of our stop here was to hook up with my old buddy Martin and his Costa Rican Queen Yorleny!!
Now unfortunately I arrived in Singapore with an upset stomach and looking back I probably should have opted out of the beers and spicy Mexican food on the first night. Needless to say I didn't and without adding too much detail lets just say it didn't end well. Haha!
The following morning we (Martin and I) decided to take it easy by watching the full England match we missed during the night. After a great 4 - 1 win the girls were looking a little restless so we headed down to the Marina Bay area of Singapore. This was our first chance to look at the amazing Marina Bay Sands Hotel, unfortunately slightly out of our travelling budget. So we consoled ourselves by heading to the equally posh Raffels for a signature Singapore Sling and some monkey nuts!!
The following morning we headed down to Sentosa and hired a 4 person bicycle to cruise along the beach. When I say cruise it was actually more of a crawl with only two people peddling (no prizes for guessing which two)!! Unfortunately the Singaporians didn't see the funny side of our attempted Mcdonalds drive through on the bicycle, so we headed back for a well earnt beer at the local Belgium restaurant. That night we headed off to the night safari not really knowing what to expect. Well it turned out to be one of the best nights of our trip. It was very clever how all of the fences had been concealed by dips and bushes to give the impression that the animals (some deadly!) could just walk straight up to you!! Add to that the fact that it was night time, with lions roaring and the bushes rustling and the whole thing was very very scary...... well for the girls anyway!!
