Lisbon - Lagos, Portugal

Lagos, Portugal

We arrived in the afternoon on a camping about 2.5 km in the outskirts of Lisbon so perfect to take a bus to visit town. We got installed and went into town. I've been here only ones as we booked to stay a day coming back from Brazil and I loved it so here another chance to have a closer look. We got the bus practically in front of the camping and got out at Belém in front of the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos and went straight away for the famous pastel de Belém, miammiiii, they're great ! We went into the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos where we found the tombs of Vasco da Gama, the famous explorer and the Tomb of Camões, father of the Portuguese language. Than we walked to the Torre de Belém, from where are the explorers left. We walked for about a kilometer to the marina called Docas, where you find all kind of fancy restaurants and bars. We had dinner there with of course seafood, this time we took ink fish which was perfectly cooked with rice in a big pan, after a desert and coffee we walked back and took our bus back to the camping after a great dinner. 18th We were pretty relaxed today and took our time to get ready. We took the bus into town around 11:30 and got out in the old part of town where we had to take lots if stairs which we did or take a little lift train, it was more fun to see it going up and take pictures. We walked around this part of town called Bairro Alto where the also have the famous Fado in the evening. Lots of nice buildings, bars, café's and little restaurants in small streets without cars, perfect ! Than we came into the Chiado area with lots of shops in old big buildings and also the famous elevator called Santa Justa going up to the area of Bairro Alto coming from the other side. Then we walked towards the praça do Comércio via the Avenida da Liberdade where we got into a elevator to get on top of the Arco da Rua Augusta, a kind of Arc de Triomph from which you have a perfect 360 degree view on Lisbon ! After taking a few pictures of the Castelo Sao Jorge, the Cathedral Sé de Lisboa, the coastline and the Praça do Comércio we went down and onto the square where we went for a drink on a terrace. Than we took the old small train to Belém where we could get our bus back to the camping.
