Another long day 44m 70k - Sunderland, United Kingdom
Sunderland, United Kingdom
Had a big bowl of porridge before leaving the Trap Inn. Mike and Liz, a very friendly host and hostess. Found my way back to the bike path at Drundridge Bay. The track ran right beside the beaches with open views all round. I met a Dutch lady cyclist who said she was going to Newcastle. I said I was too, but was( going in the opposite direction. I showed her my map, but she was adamant she was right.! The No1 continued on quiet lanes and on a path running beside, but away from the main road. Near Blyth the signs were pointing to a diversion going the wrong way, so I took to the main road through the town and towards Whitley Bay, where I found theNo1 signs again. Had to ask the whereabouts of the Shields ferry, and once found, paid my £1.50 to cross to North Shields. From there I took the Two Rivers Way along the coast, past some lovely beaches just before crossing the bridge into Sunderland. Having looked up the location of the Acorn Guest House, I found it easily and was there by 5oc. Nipped out to an Indian takeaway for an average meal, but was hungry so ate it all. Lovely old Victorian house, the Acorn and a young family running it. Had to buy a new helmet as the adjuster on the old one broken.
