Full day in Florence - Florence, Italy

Florence, Italy

Whew! Not so hot today but tiring. We did the rounds...The Musee dÁccademe, Uffizi gallery, Musee Galileo (I was disappointed that works by the great man were markedly absent but the contents of the museum were inspiring), but I didn't get to (my) main game - Galileo's (and Michaelangelo's) tomb(s) in the Santa Croce cathedral - definitely tomorrow!

Footsore and tired tonight but pretty inspired with what humanity can do given the inspiration!

The artworks in the Uffizi and the Academe were pretty amazing, the instructional videos about the tempura painting style (using egg white) and the gilding of the works and process of doing same were fascinating, patience is indeed a virtue!

Cameras were not allowed in the Uffizi or Academe so I can't upload any examples - you'll have to come see for yourself!

I actually got chills looking at the statue of David, it is big, imposing and of the whitest marble. I can see why people are awestruck by it but I reckon, and GG concurs, that it has a fat ankle! lol

Actually, given the accuracy of the work, it also has a bump on the left calf which I thought may have been a sign of a previous limb fracture in the model - who knows but interesting to wonder about...a famous (Reubens I think) painting shows a reclining nude with bumps in her breast that aficionados believe are signs of breast cancer picked up by an observant artist!

There were other statues in marble and bronze that I thought were its (David's) equal (though not in size).

Had a 5 euro latte at the museum caffeteria (much to GG's dismay) and a chocolate muffin that actually had real "oozy" chocolate in the centre (sorry Trace and Sue) mmmmm.

Our "cheap as chips" guesthouse actually had the room serviced today which really surprised us! It's pretty central but walking has been tiring, should have brought more comfy shoes.

We're hoping to have a ride in the hop on, hop off buses tomorrow and that should save my sore feet a bit!

Nearly tea time so will upload some photos and wander off, had a delicious meal last night at Trattoria ZaZa so much so that the Galloping Gourmet "GG" wants to go back there tonight.

By the way GGs blog is at http://blog.travelpod.com/travel-blog/w est_we_go/2/tpod.html

Nuff for now!
