Napoli Acropoli - Naples, Italy

Naples, Italy

After breakfast at the hotel, we braved another wild taxi ride to the port to board The World. After settling in, we ventured on our 4 hour walking tour. Heading out of the port, we walked past Castel Nuovo, Teatro San Carlo, Galleria Umberto to Piazza Pebliscito. We walked thru the large square (more like a huge semicircle big enough for a soccer match and walking your favorite best friend) over to the promenade for a view of Mt V and the port from whence we started. Back thru the square or half moon, past Gran Caffe Grabinus for a walk down Naples best shopping Vias, past Naples' version of the Spanish Steps to the high end shops like Prada, Burberry, Hermes and back down again nearly to the port. We came upon the funiculare which we took to the top of the hill, Napoli's version of the Acropoli. We walked up to Castel S. Elmo and the monestery for the best view of Naples and Mt V. Then it was back down 3 long flights of steps to take the funicular nonstop to the streets below. Now it's time to find food! We stumbled upon Osteria d'Antonio where the locals knew Antonio by name. He not only owns the place, but in his faded white t shirt, waited upon all 8 tables and greeted everyone, but the two of us by their names. His English was perfecto and he told us about the daily specials of which Walter had the Neopalitan lasagne aka meatlovers delight. I chose the Spaghetti with Clams which were also perfecto! After eating all the clams served, Antonio brought out another plate full, tossed them on my pasta, saving one for himself which he slurped from the shell. For 30 E we had two meals, 1/2 litre of water, 1/2 litre of vin bianci, and crusty bread. Okay sooo, we needed another walk! Back past the castle and the teatro to the caffe for cappucino, expresso and just enough room for gelato chocolate! The coffee bar was set in what looked like part of the palace across the piazza! Elegant setting with great coffee and gelato. Did anyone say nap?
