Today was the perfect ending to a really perfect family cross country adventure. While it was a chilly 28 degrees this morning when we woke up in our Deerpark, NY KOA, it was sunny and bright. We got the camper prepared - we're now pros at this process - and were on the road by 9am.
The rolling hills painted with late fall colors, and the crossing of the Hudson River were scenic highlights. We entered Connecticut with big cheers and whoops. Everyone is excited to get home.
We stopped in Wethersfield to give Suzanne's father a surprise visit with the camper in tow. He was outside with our nephew Matthew raking leaves, and was really happy to see us. Some of his neighbors came over to check out the camper as did Matt. Hard to believe it's been our home for the last 6 weeks and one day!
After our visit we headed over to Cabela's as they have a free RV dump station. We gave the black and gray tanks a good cleaning so we will be ready to winterize the camper.
Before we went home we stopped at St. Mary's in Coventry to pay a quick visit to Jesus in the adoration chapel. God has been guiding and protecting us throughout this big trip and we wanted to say "Thank you Lord".
We got home right at 2PM and saw Omar's mother out in the garden working. Lots of hugs and kisses were given and received. The house looked great - so big! Do we really live here? What will we do with all this space!? Then more hugs and kisses upon greeting Omar's father on his patio.
Omar's father so very kindly made us a perfect welcome home dinner of Z'noud Al Banat (Lady's Arms) a beautiful Middle Eastern dish of lamb rolled with hard boiled eggs inside covered in a savory sauce. After a delicious bottle of wine, we were really feeling very welcomed home indeed.
The camper is now winterized and ready for storage. Now the unpacking process is underway. Basketsful of laundry, books to be reshelved, a refrigerator and freezer to be restocked - and so we will return to the lovely rhythm of home life.
Oh, and Omar's prediction that we would have 3 feet of snow upon our return was, thankfully, not correct.
