CHARLOTTE - AMALIE
10:00am to 4:30 pm
Today we arrived at Charlotte-Amalie in the Virgin Islands. Christopher Columbus sighted the islands on his second voyage westward and called them collectively Las Virgenes. The islands have been administered by 7 different countries over their history. The territories of St Thomas, St John and St Croix make up the US Virgin Islands and along with the British Virgin Islands have some of the most beautiful geographic areas in the world blessed with sun-drenched powdery beaches and tranquil turquoise waters.
We decided on an Island and beach tour for our day trip today. We boarded an open style bus for sightseeing including Beacons Point, Skyline Drive and the Botanical Gardens of St. Peter Greathouse. We had about 2 hours for a swim sunbathe and stroll of the world famous Magen's Bay Beach. The beach has showers and change rooms and has been named by National Geographic as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. It was a lovely beach and setting but we really are spoilt by our beaches at home. Later in the afternoon we were dropped off in downtown Charlotte Amalie for some shopping before making our way back to the ship.
