The Tenth Day (New York) - New York, NY

New York, NY

We woke up really late this morning, around ten because the time zone was different. We got ready and were on the train by 11:30. We caught the train to the World trade center, we saw the new building and we tried to go and see the 9/11 memorial museum but there were no tickets left. It was really crowded and cold in the streets of New York. We walked around for a little until we found a cute cafe to have some brunch at, we stayed in the warmth of the cafe for a while before going back out into the streets. We walked down Wall Street, the financial district and saw a lot of important buildings. Then we walked to the harbor and took some photos of the Brooklyn Bridge and looked at this place were heaps of helicopters had landed. We walked back into the city and made our way to the Brooklyn Bridge walkway. We walked across the bridge with about one thousand other people. It was really weird because unlike the Harbor Bridge the walkway was in the middle of the bridge. When we got to the middle of the bridge we turned around and walked back to the city. Next we caught a subway to central park. While we were walking there we passed a lot of really expensive apartments that reminded us of the ones you see on television. The park was huge and it was really cool there because it was the filming place of lots of movies that we had seen. Plus there were heaps of really cute squirrels there. Mum said that she saw the famous actress Teri Hatcher from Desperate Housewives just walking through the park. We walked up the museum of modern history and just walked in the foyer where there were some dinosaur bones. Then we walked to another subway to catch the train to Times Square. By this time we were all already tired from walking everywhere. We got off the train and while we were walking we stopped at Starbucks, I used my Starbucks card to buy myself a Hazelnut Frappichino. When we got to Times Square there was so many people there. It was so crowded you could hardly walk, but it was worth it because it was amazing. There was so many lights and billboards and huge screens playing videos, it was one of my favourite parts of the day. Afterwards we walked down to see the Rockefeller Center and the big Christmas tree. It was so crowded there that there was police monitoring the streets. We saw the building and Christmas tree and watched people ice skating for a bit. Then we bought dinner from one of the street carts that were basically on every corner. After that we walked really far, like twenty blocks to get to the train station to go back to our hotel. But first we stopped at Burger King because Natalie and Max were still hungry. We also walked around in Bryant park which had lots of little stalls selling things. On the way to the station we saw the Macy's Christmas windows which were really pretty, it was also handy because Macy's was right near our train station. Before catching the train we popped into the mall above the train station to buy some extra stuff. We caught the train back to Jersey and we got there at around nine forty five. We showered and went to sleep with really sore feet.
