Gili T - Gili Trawangan, Indonesia

Gili Trawangan, Indonesia

The ferries leave roughly every hour between the Gili islands. We left Gili Air by speed boat to stop in Gili Meno, then onto Gili Trawangan or otherwise known as Gili T. I was checking wrestling scores on my phone when I saw some boats next to each other with people in the water. These people were fully clothed, so something looked weird. People were screaming left and right, so I looked around and some wood in the water along with pieces of the boat missing from the front. There was also a man sitting in the front with a piece of wood stuck in his leg and a few other bleeding. We let the other people from the boat crash come to ours and went to land. Many people were crying and in shock. I don't think the boat was in any danger of sinking immediately but the roof had also colapsed. Thankful that this didn't happen to me. I heard mixed reviews on Gili T. It's the biggest of the three islands and the most popular. There are no roads here but only a trails. There are no motorized vehicles, but only bicycles and horses. After enjoying my quiet time on Gili Air, I was back to a busy island where everyone wants to sell you something everywhere you go. There are even quite a few drug dealers here that offer mushrooms and marijuana. I spend my first day diving here. I went to the bounty wreck. This is not a shipwreck, but a dock that was sunk and now has coral attached to it. There was also some bicycles for some reason that were interesting. The fish here was much more impressive than my last stop on Gili Air Wall. I saw my first octopus also. The food here is hard to find cheap. You are looking at $7-10 for a meal and $3-5 for a snack. I decided to go out at night for a few hours but was not really impressed. This place is for the most part rundown. It's crowded and underdeveloped, but there are definitely places that are quite nice. My second day here I went to a viewpoint that wasn't much of a viewpoint. The trail up was also rundown and I had to navigate around trees that had fallen and wasn't sure if I was on there right path or going through someone's field. The highest point is not very high since it is an island. From here, I walked all the way around the island. It is about 4 miles, so with stopping on 4 beaches, it took me 4 hours. The far end of the island is really enjoyable. It's very quiet and you can have a beach all to yourself. The beaches are ok. Not the prettiest, but sure not bad. I was noticing some interesting things about the island in my walk. They really don't have a garbage system here on the island. They throw everything in a field and let goats eat the food scraps, then afterwards they burn the rest.
