Crazy fun in Queenstown and pretty Milford Sound - Queenstown, New Zealand

Queenstown, New Zealand

On our way to Queenstown we stopped at the bridge bungy jump which was the first ever commercial bungy jump. We all had great fun watching our friends jump into the water including flipper and fresher. Boss and Margaret (Kirsty & Helena) did the Nevis swing along with German David but we couldn't watch as they had to go over an hour's drive away to do it. In the evening we all had a very fun night out with everyone from the Kiwi Experience bus because everyone started to go their separate ways on Wednesday. Wednesday was amazing! Fresher and I did a ledge swing which was utterly terrifying and so exhilarating! I was suspended 400m above Queenstown (with stunning views of Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables) - that was bad enough! I then had to pull on a little red tag that released me so I dropped down suddenly before swinging out. It was crazy but so much fun! It didn't feel like I was attached to anything as I was falling through the air until the swinging action kicked in. After this we went lugeing which was fun although I think I was the slowest person on the track because I was worried I was going to tip over! We then met Alex and went to the famous Fergburger for lunch, it was so delicious and probably the biggest burger I've ever had! We spent the rest of the afternoon sunbathing by the lake. Fresher and I went to Milford Sound in Fiordland National Park on Thursday with quite a lot of people from our bus. Before we left, we had to say an emotional farewell to Alex and David. We stopped for breakfast 3 hours into the journey at Te Anau where it was disappointingly cloudy. I was really hoping for clear blue skies for seeing Milford Sound. We also stopped at a lovely clearing to view the mountains, here the sun came out, then saw the mirror lakes in the temperate rainforest. Our last stop before reaching our destination was to look at more mountains before we went through a tunnel. There were dozens and dozens of skinny waterfalls running down the mountains, they looked so pretty! Milford Sound was cloudy but it wasn't too bad and by time we were towards the end of the boat trip the sun had come out. It was beautiful but not as impressive as I was expecting if I'm honest - I was more impressed by the scenery as we were driving there. We saw a lot of seals there, more beautiful waterfalls and green snow capped mountains. I didn't do much during the day today, just hung out with Fresher and Popeye. In the evening we all had one final night out as the rest of us go our separate ways tomorrow. I have had the best 11 days travelling the south island on the Kiwi Experience bus with 'The Unit' and am really going to miss everyone I met. I hope I have just as much fun on the north island but I doubt I'll meet such an amazing group of people again!
