6am hike Sunrise Trail (Peoria<http://www.phxtraildude.com/ 2013/03/sunrise-trail-peoria.html>or Scottsdale) I spent 3 days hiking around Sedona. The most scenic:Boynton Canyon Vista (not the full Boynton Canyon hike)Bell Rock LoopBroken Arrow hikeMy favorite hike was Devil's Tower Here is how I know this is a great trail: A young man in love one day comes into the store and asks where would be a great place to propose to his girlfriend. I told him of this trail down by Oak Creek. He took his girlfriend to this place and she said “YES!” So that means this is a great trail.

Cathedral/Templeton Trail is a romantic adventure. The majesty of Cathedral coupled with the beauty of Oak Creek and the cool canopied forest leading down to the creek make this a great hike for couples in love and families looking for a moderate adventure where the kids can jump around in the water. This is my wife’s favorite hike in the area and it embodies everything that is great in Sedona.Sunrise, Cathedral Rock Trail which intersects with Templeton Trail. I take a left on Templeton heading southeast until you round the corner and into full sun. Very easy walk to this area. Then afterwards climbing Cathedral to the Saddle is fun and beautiful in the morning sun. Cathedral Rock is touted to be a superior place to experience the majestic Arizona sunrises! It is suggested that you start out about 45 minutes before sunrise to make sure that you get to a good vantage point - See more at: http://blog.goodsamcamping.com/2012/02/ cathedral-rock-a-quest-for-the-ultimate -view/#sthash.LlDu0QWj.dpuf Baby Bell Rock. I used to guide tours and we did a sunset tour and climbed to the top of Baby Bell watched the sunset then the short hike down and back to the parking lot which is only about a mile away. Another benefit while you're waiting for the sun to set is the 360 view of the surrounding area including Bell Rock Cathedral Rock. The view of the sunset is just behind the spires of Cathedral Rock<http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attra ction_Review-g31352-d126802-Reviews-Cat hedral_Rock-Sedona_Arizona.html>. The reflection off the other rocks is spectacular. Another great aspect is that no one else is there! You get to Baby Bell by parking at the trailhead lot just north of Bell Rock. When you get onto the trail head straight towards Bell Rock Pathway, take a left onto that trail. You'll see Baby Bell just to the left as you hike this section of BRP. Veer left when you get to the open slick rock area then veer off to the right on a single track trail directly towards Baby Bell. Stay to the left and you will wind around the base of Baby Bell. Before the trail descends look to your right and there is a trail that takes you to the top. There are a couple scrambles but if you've done this other hikes this is a piece of cake! There is still plenty of light left after the sunsets to get back to your car. Within Oak Creek Canyon, several hikes of different lengths are possible. By far the most spectacular and popular is the 6-mile round-trip up the West Fork of Oak Creek. This is a classic canyon-country hike with steep canyon walls rising from the creek. At some points, the canyon is no more than 20 feet wide, with walls rising up more than 200 feet. You can also extend the hike many more miles up the canyon for an overnight backpacking trip. The trail head for the West Fork of Oak Creek hike is 9 1/2 miles up Oak Creek Canyon from Sedona at the Call of the Canyon Recreation Area, which charges a $9 day-use fee per vehicle. This one is a 1.8-mile round-trip hike. New trail opened up call “Chuck Wagon <https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msi d=201493905694158965202.0004bf28df0075d 6d7671&msa=0&ll=34.911414,-111. 80387&spn=0.025901,0.049052>Trai l.” This trail maybe accessed off of Long Canyon Road. From the trailhead, it is 1.2 miles to Devil’s Bridge…a much better way to get there than the old dusty road. After you’ve walked about three-quarters of a mile from the parking area, the trail will divide. Head down the path to the left and you’ll end up at the base of the bridge. For a cool view, stand directly under the 50 foot high arch and look toward the heavens — and take care not to strain your neck. But it’s the topside trail that provides the biggest treat. Follow it up a steep, natural rock staircase to a wide open area that offers some fantastic views. Keep going, and you’ll reach yet another level that leads directly to Devil’s Bridge. For the hands-down best views in Sedona, hike all or part of the Airport Mesa Trail, a 3.5-mile loop that circles Airport Mesa. With virtually no elevation gain, this is an easy hike. You'll find the trail head about halfway to the top of Airport Mesa on Airport Road. Try this one as early in the day as possible; by midday, the parking lot is usually full and it stays that way right through sunset. Montezuma WellMontezuma Well is a separate location, but part of the Montezuma Castle National Monument. Formed when a huge underground cavern collapsed thousands of years ago, the natural limestone sinkhole is 55 feet deep and 368 feet across. Over one and a half million gallons of water a day flow into it from two underground springs. The pretty blue pool is rimmed with unreachable cliff dwellings, but a platform overlooking the site provides a nice aerial view. For a closer look at 800-year old cave ruins, follow the path down to the water's edge. In addition to building homes into the cliffs, the Southern Sinaguans also took advantage of natural caves in the area and built some dwellings at ground level, too. The trail also passes more stone ruins that were once the walls of free-standing pueblos. Step carefully in this area! Rattlesnakes avoid humans for the most part, but since they like to hang out in rocks and bushes near the trails, seeing one can be a bit startling if you're not expecting it. A Red Rock Pass will allow you to visit Palatki Ruins and the V Bar V petroglyph site and park at any national forest trail head parking areas. The cost is $5 for a 1-day pass, $15 for a 7-day pass, and $20 for a 12-month pass (this annual pass is not a good value, and I don't recommend it). Passes are good for everyone in your vehicle. However, be aware that these passes are not valid at Grasshopper Point (a swimming hole), Call of the Canyon (the West Fork Oak Creek trail head), or Crescent Moon (Sedona's top photo-op site), all of which charge $8 to $9 admission per vehicle. Two state parks are in the area -- Slide Rock ($10-$20 per car) and Red Rock ($10 per car). Admission to the Montezuma Castle or Tuzigoot national monuments will cost you $5 per adult or $8 if you buy a combination pass that lets you visit both national monuments.
