Singapore's play ground - Sentosa Island, Singapore
Sentosa Island, Singapore
Sentosa Island, an island packed with resorts, activities, restaurants and 4+ star hotels, a first class holiday destination.
Universal Studio was OK, loved the "Crane Dance" and "Songs of the Sea". The luge was great fun and addictive. Chickened out on the megazip. Had my first ride on a Segway. Watched a guy with a water jet pack fly, and heaps of other stuff.
My decision to take public transport to Sentosa did not quite go as smooth as expected thanks to the lack of signage and the late hour. I got to Sentosa Island Ok, but there was absolutely no signage as to where any hotel was and at 10pm it was deserted and I was tired. I knew the basic direction but one could not go that way. With much assistance I eventually found the hotel. Directions were quite confuluted. It seems the hotel assumes all guests come by taxi. For a magnificently layed out island I found numerous examples where signs were lacking.
I enjoyed a couple of the rides in Universal Studio, but it is more a family park. Having just been in a jungle it is strange going on a ride through a simulated jungle.
The "Crane Dance" was my highlight. 2 mechanical cranes with large tv's as bodies doing a synchronized dance simulating cranes.
The "Songs of the Sea" was also good. Images are projected on huge sheets of water with a backdrop of a water villiage.
I loved the Luge, basically a go cart down a winding track from the top of the hill, I could have done this many times.
I checked the mega zip line from the top to the beach below, it looked so cool to do, but I'm not great with heights and doubt I could jump.
The Segway was fun. So lean forward to go, lean back to stop. Yea, I'm moving, now lean back to stop, but it started to go backward. The instruction to lean back to stop made to go back faster. I jumped off before crashing. We headed off, it was initially tiring concentrating, but just as I was getting comfortable it was over. Have to do this again. While money may have been on me to crash, it was the more confident ones who came off.
On the beach a burly guy was learning to operate a jet pack strapped to his back. The jet pack forced water down with the goal that one can hover over the water like James Bond. The guy learn quick and after 15 minutes he was hovering over the water. Totally cool.
Sentosa Beach was being locked down for New Year celebrations, I headed to the aquarium, did a short nature walk, watch the crane dance and enjoy the Sentosa Promenade again before an early night as I'm off to Bintan in the morning.
