Safety from the storm... - Grand Haven, MI

Grand Haven, MI

Where I stayed

EastPointe RV Resort

Devotional for today:

Proverbs 15:4, Proverbs 15:23, and Proverbs 15:28

Gentle words cause life and health; griping brings discouragement.
How wonderful it is to be able to say the right thing at the right time.
A good man thinks before he speaks; the evil man pours out his evil words without a thought.

Wow! How apropos the above verses are for today's world! They say it all. We last read this page on July 24, 2006 in Park City, Utah

We had a HUGE storm come through last night starting around 1:30 this morning and continuing until after 8:00 this morning. Big blasts of lightening and the accompanying booms of thunder were almost continuous. It was such a blessing to be inside our motor home where we were safe and comfortable. (We have always enjoyed the sound of rain on the roof of an RV. The Airstream was the best for that since it was metal.) Many in this world don't have the blessing of safe shelter. We looked out our windows a few times during the night, and could see the wind whipping the trees in the RV park and across the river from us. Not many boats traveling then for sure!

Since today was a planned lay over day, we were VERY lazy and didn't get up until close to 8:30. We opted to take our time getting ready and had a very nice "brunch" around 10:30...the picture below tells the story! After eating we (John) decided that since the coach was wet anyway (we had continued to have a few light showers) that it might be a good plan to wipe off Mufasa and get rid of some of the road grime. He had made the decision when we started this trip to NOT spend an hour each evening cleaning up that particular day's mess. To our happy surprise, we really didn't look all that bad in spite of the conscious decision to be a little less obsessive/compulsive by at least one of us. Naming no names. Just saying...

At any rate, we got a few cleaning cloths ready and out we went to straighten poor Muf up a little bit. He is quite proud you see. Once again I provided the great assistance of being moral support, and The Big Muf was soon in fairly pristine condition. He is now sitting proudly among his peers! I took the cleaning cloths to the laundromat here in the park, and they too are now clean and ready for their next assignment. (See, arm candy can be useful too!)

For a late lunch we decided to walk down the street a couple of blocks and have Mexican at a restaurant that was recommended by several folks here in the park. I am sure they were good, but they were also closed today! Since our park is in the outskirts of an industrial park I suspect (opinion, not fact) that they don't do that much business in this area on Sunday, thus they were not open. Good for them!

On our walk back to camp we saw a distressingly horrid wreck that had just been unloaded into the parking lot of a body shop. I took several pictures, and I am sure that you will agree that it is highly unlikely that anyone walked away from this accident. Neither of us have ever seen many wrecks quite this bad in our lives. So sad.

Since there was no restaurant available we returned to Muf and had a nice luncheon overlooking our world class view over the Grand River. That is about the sum total of the excitement for us in Grand Haven for today!

By the way, FYI: we would like to give a shout out to all who served in the US Coast Guard. Grand Harbor is all about the Coast Guard. This year is the 92nd year since the official founding of the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival. Last year they celebrated the 225th anniversary of the United States Coast Guard. This year is the 100th anniversary of United State's Coast Guard Aviation. There is a Coast Guard station here in Grand Haven and both entities are firmly intertwined.

We drove 0 miles today and bought no fuel. We walked about 1 1/2 miles today. We are slugs. Just saying...
