Christmas lessons continued this week. We were asked to teach the pupils 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas' for the Christmas Eve activity day that we are having. Neither of us have any talent in singing but I knew the words and Ocean asked me to help her with Prathom 2 on Tuesday. They picked it up surprisingly well!
On Wednesday I made the usual Anuban Christmas tree and played pass the parcel. Then Prathom 1 and Prathom 4 made Christmas cards. I had to explain in Thai the concept of Christmas Cards as they didn’t really understand what they were making. This was not the most convenient time to forget the Thai for ‘to give’ (kong kwan)!
Christmas lessons with Matium 3 and 2 went very well, we taught them some words and then read out sentences containing one of the words. They had to write down the Christmas words in the right order. Then they made some lovely cards. Matium 1 boys had no interest in putting any effort into making cards but they still did it. They even did the activity above, with a lot of help! We had a very exciting afternoon – booking flights to Vietnam in March!
5.30 Friday morning is not a time that I wish to be cycling through the surprisingly busy Kutchum again. But we were on our way to Kutchum Pattana as we were going on a school trip. The fact that there were not enough seats on the bus didn’t bother anyone and Ocean and I were made to sit in the most uncomfortable place ever for the 4 hour journey to the Dinosaur Museum in Kalasin. The museum was very good. We seemed to be wuite the attraction with many people wanting photos with us! With several schools there Ocean and I quickly got lost. A woman kept ushering us places so we assumed she was with the school. When we reached the end of the exhibition she ushered us up a hill. We walked up, saw no one we knew so went back down where we found two of the teachers looking for us! The four hour journey home was awful. The lack of seats wasn’t helped by the music blasting for two speakers above our heads. We thought this was bad until a pupil decided that it was Karaoke time... Ocean and I were very glad to be back at our favourite restaurant, children free!
Over the weekend we did our usual chores but we also made Truffles as presents, if we don’t finish them off ourselves! At the Sunday market the Burmese rotee man (Ocean is his best and most reliable customer, so much so that he started grinning and calling us over the second we stepped foot into the market) gave me a free one which was a nice treat! Assembly on Monday morning caused amusement for Ocean and I as the word of the day was ‘lover’. We didn’t understand why a seven year old would need to know this word in English!
On Christmas Eve there was a special Christmas assembly at Kutchum Tessaban. Pi Anne told the pupils about Christmas and then there were 10 questions in English, the pupil who answered got a prize. Finally they sang ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ and one of the pupils came dressed as Santa to give all the pupils snacks! It was a really nice morning. In the evening we went to George’s (an English expat) house for a party. The place was full of Farang men and their Thai wives. We didn’t know there were so many Westerners hidden around Kutchum! It was strange hearing all the different accents from Norwegian to Swiss, American to Australian but meeting the Irishman, Michael was even stranger as he was from Dundonald! We had lovely western food and George gave us Tetley’s teabags and cheese as presents!
Christmas morning was different as I got up to go to work. We stopped at the market for some sticky rice and cycled on to Kutchum Pattana where we thought we would be teaching. To our surprise they had organised a Christmas party for Anuban, decorating the room with the tree I made the week before and Christmas drawings. The pupils were split into four teams and did various fun games! For lunch I had my usual Wednesday rice and Vietnamese sausage. After school we came home and opened our presents (Mum sent a lot of Christmas clothing!) before watching a movie and eating some chocolate. Then we skyped home. Seth opened all his Santa presents on skype which was a wee bit hard for me to watch as I really wanted to be there but it was nice seeing him so pleased! Then I talked to Nanny and Niall on skype for the first time since coming here! After 4 months it was good hearing their voices! In the evening we went to another Farang party. This time at the American Terry’s house. His Wife lived in America for 35 years; she sounds, looks and acts American! The food was an amazing American spread. It was a nice way to spend Christmas away from home and I wasn’t nearly as homesick as I thought I’d be!
Songkorn were at a sports thing so we had Boxing Day off work! Pi Anne came round for dinner and we made her a mini Christmas dinner. With only a gas stove this was hard. I bought sausages as the only meat. There was a lack of choice at the market today and when we started eating them they turning out to be noodle sausages with no meat! We played typical games and had a really good evening!
I’m off to Laos tomorrow for New Years! Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Die Weihnachstenklassen haben dieses Woche weitergemacht. Die Schule hat uns gefragen „We Wish You A Merry Christmas" zu die Kinder lehren. Ocean und ich sind nicht so gut auf singen, eigentlich sind wir die beide schrecklich! Ich kenne die lieder, deshalb hat Ocean mich gefragt, ob ich sie mit Prathom 2 hilfe werde. Prathom 2 hat die Lieder schnell gelernt! Mittwoch habe ich einen Weihnachestenbaum mit Anuban gemacht und „Pass the Parcel“ gespielt. Dann habe ich mit Prathom 1 und 4 Weihnachstenkarte gamacht. Aber sie verstehen nicht, was die sind. Ich musste auf Thai erklaren. Natürlich habe ich das Wort für geben (kong kwan) vergessen!
Weihnachstenklasse mit Matuim 2 und 3 war sehr gut. Wir haben Sie wörter gelehren und dann haben wir Satzen geliesen, den einen Weihnachtswort enthalten. Sie mussten die wörter in die richtige Reihenfolge schreiben. Dann haben sie Karte gemacht. Wir haben die gleiche klasse mit Matium 1 gelehren. Wir mussen Sie viel mehr helfen aber alle die Kinder haben versuchen. Leider wollte die Junge Karten nicht machen. Dass gab uns ein Bisschen Druck! Nachmittags war sehr gut, weil wir fliegen nach Vietnam in März vorbestellt haben!
Ich hoffe, dass ich Kutchum am 5.30 morgens nie wieder sehen. Aber am Freitag fand Ocean und ich uns zur Kutchum Pattana zum Rad gehen. Wir bin mit Anuban and Prathom 2 einen Ausflug nach das Dinosauriermuseum in Kalasin gegangen. Die Reise dauert vier Stunde. Es gab nicht genug Platz auf die Bus aber niemand kummert sich. Ocean und ich haben keinen Platz und es war sehr unbequem. Das musem war sehr gut aber es gab viele Schule da und wir waren schnell verloren! Die Zurückreise macht keinen Spass. Wir haben noch keinen Platz und es gab zwei Lautsprecher über unsere Kopf, die Musik sehr laut verflixt! Wir haben gedacht, dass das schlimm war. Dann eine Studentin wollte Kareoke machen! Wir waren sehr glücklich in unsere Lieblinhgsrestaurant essen, ohne Kinder!
Am Wochenende haben wir, wie üblich, das Hausarbeit gemacht. Aber wir haben auch ‚Truffles‘ gekocht. Sie sind für geschenke, wenn Ocean und ich sie nicht essen! Das Montagversammlung war ein Bisschen lustig für uns. Das Wort des Tags war ‚Liebhaber‘. Wir verstehen nichts warum einen 7-jähriger braucht das Wort auf Englisch wissen.
Der Heiligabend war einen schönes Tag. Es gab einen Weihnachtsversammlung. Pi Anne hat zu die Kinder über Weihnachsten erklärt. Dann die Kinder mussten Frage auf Englisch antworten, um einen Geschenck zu winnen. Wir haben „We Wish You a Merry Christmas“ gesungen und ein Schuler, anzieht als Santa, kommt und er gab alle die Kinder ein Paar Süssigkeiten. Abends sind wir bei George (unsere Freund Englisch) für ein Fest gegangen. Es gab so viele Farang da, wir wissen nichts das es so viel in Kutchum gibt! Alle Männer mit ihre Frauen Thai. Sie kommt aus Australien, Amerika, England, Norwegen und der Schweiz usw. Es gab auch einen Mann, der von Irland kommt. Eigentlich kommt er aus Dundonald! George hat uns Tetleys Tea bags und Käse als Geschenk gegeben!
Weihnachtsmorgen war seltsam. Ich musste auf Kutchum Pattana gehen! Wir haben gedacht, dass wir lehren musste. Aber sie haben einen Fest mit Anuban organisiert, wir haben viele Spiele gespielt und es hat Spass gemacht. Wenn wir zu Hause zurückkommen, haben wir unsere Geschenke geoffnet! Wir haben einen Film gesehen und Schokolade gegessen bevor uns Skype gemacht! Seth hat alle seine Geschenke auf Skype geoffnet. Es war ein Bisschen schwer für mich – ich möchte da sein aber es war nett. Wir sind nach einen anderen Farang Fest gegangen. Es war bei Terry, einen Amerikaner. Seine Frau hat 35 Jahre in Amerika gewohnt; sie sprecht, sieht und ist wie eine Amerikanerin! Das Essen war sehr Gut und es war einen guten Weg, meine Erste Weihnachts weg von Hause zu passen!
Zweiter Weihnachtsfeiertag war sehr gut, weil wir auf Songkorn nichts lehren musste! Abends kommy Pi Anne bei uns für „Weihnachtsessen“. Wir haben nur einen herd und es war sehr schwer aber es war lecker! Wir haben traditionelle Spiele gespielt und es war einen gutes Abend!
Les cours de noël ont continué cette semaine. L’école a demandé que nous enseignons « We Wish You a Merry Christmas » aux des enfants pour le jour d’activité noël. Ocean et moi sont deux des plus mauvaise chanteurs du monde ! Mais je connais les paroles alors Ocean a demandé que je elle aide avec Prathom 2. Ils ont appris les paroles très vite !
Mercredi j’ai fait un sapin de noël avec Anuban et nous sommes joués « Pass the Parcel ». Avec Prathom 1 et 4 j’ai fait des cartes de noël. Mais ils n’ont pas compris ce qu’on fait avec des cartes. J’ai dû expliquer en thaï mais naturellement j’ai oublié le mot pour donner (kong kwan). Finalement ils ont compris – j’espère !
Les cours de noël avec Matium 2 et 3 ont passé très bien. Nous avons enseigné des mots de noël. Puis nous avons dit une phrase qui contenir un mot. Ils ont dû écrire des mots dans l’ordre vrai. Puis ils ont fait des cartes très belles. Avec beaucoup d’aide Matium 1 ont fait la première activité. Les garçons ne voulaient pas faire des cartes et comme par habitude c’était une classe très difficile pour nous ! L’après-midi était très excitent pour nous parce que nous ont pris un vol au Vietnam en mars !
Je ne veux pas encore voir 5.30 matin dans Kutchum. Mais vendredi matin nous sommes allées à Kutchum Pattana pour faire une excursion avec Anuban et Prathom 2 au musée des dinosaures. Le trajet dure quatre heures. Il n’y avait pas assez des places dans l’autobus mais personne ne sourire pas. Ce n’était pas très confortable pour Ocean et moi ! Le musée était très intéressant mais il y avait beaucoup d’écoles là et nous sommes vite perdues ! Le retour était une expérience horrible ! Nous n’avons encore pas de place et il y avait deux haut-parleurs au-dessous de notre tête. La musique était très forte, puis une fille a décidé de faire un peu de Karaoké ! Nous sommes très heureuses de manger dans notre restaurant préférée, sans enfants !
Le week-end nous avons fait des ménages comme d’habitude. Mais nous avons fait des ‘truffles’ aussi. Ils sont pour des cadeaux, si nous ne les mangeons pas ! Assemblée lundi matin était amusant pour nous. Le mot du jour était ‘amoureux’ et nous ne comprenons pas pour quoi un enfant de sept années doit savoir ce mot en anglais !
La veille de noël a commencé avec une assemblée noël. Pi Anne a expliqué noël à des enfants. Les enfants a répondé aux questions en anglais pour gagner un petit cadeau. Puis nous avons chanté « We Wish You a Merry Christmas » avant que ‘Santa’ s’est arrivé avec des bons-bons pour toutes les enfants ! Le soir nous sommes allées chez George (notre ami anglais) pour une fête. Il y avait beaucoup de hommes Farang avec leurs femmes Thai. Nous ne savons pas qu’il y a si nombre de Farang ici ! Les hommes sont australiens, américains, norvégiens, suisse etc. Mais il y a un irlandais, il a habité à Dundonald ! C’était un soir très bien !
J’ai passé un noël très bizarre. Pour commencer je me suis levée pour aller au travail ! Nous avons pensé que nous avons dû enseigner mais ils ont organisé une fête pour anuban. Nous avons joué beaucoup de jeux et c’était un matin amusant. Quand on a rentré a la maison, on a ouvert nos cadeaux avant de regarder un film et manger du chocolat ! Ensuite nous avons utilisé Skype pour parler avec nos familles. Seth a ouvert tous ses cadeaux sur Skype – c’était difficile mais bien en même temps pour moi ! Le soir nous sommes allées chez Terry (un américain) pour un autre fête farang ! Sa femme a habité aux Etats Unis depuis 35 années et elle parle comme une américaine ! La nourriture était superbe ! C’était un bon moyen de passer ma première noël loin de ma famille.
Le lendemain de noël nous n’ont pas dû enseigner à Songkorn. Le soir Pi Anne est mangé chez nous. Nous avons préparé un petit repas de noël pour elle ! Nous n’avons que un réchaud alors ce n’était pas facile. Nous avons joué des jeux traditionnels et passé une bonne nuit !
Le matin je vais au Laos pour célébrer la nouvelle année. Alors Joyeux Noel et Bonne Année !
