Lake Como to Zermatt Switzerland. - Lake Como, Italy
Lake Como, Italy
Woke up to clouds on Lake Como but much cooler. Yesterday the temperature was 30 degrees Celsius. High 80's in Fahrenheit. Souvenir hunting a little this morning then off we go. We are heading to zermatt through Lugano. When we were in Switzerland eight years we met some Italians from Lugano when we were on a Gondola in the Mountains. Happy we get to go through it. Then we will drive through mountain passes to get to the train that will take us into zermatt. Train ride should be 45 minutes. We have to take everything with us. There are no cars in zermatt. Very cool. Wow! What a drive through the mountains. Went from around 80 degrees to around 45 degrees Fahrenheit here in Zermatt. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. Even though it is raining. Tomorrow we are starting our three days of hiking. We will go to the place that we got engaged. High up on the mountain by a small lake. They call stellarsee. You can see the reflection of the Matterhorn in the lake. We decided to drive all the mountain passes not on the highway. Some of the roads 2 cars could barely fit next to each other and we would have to stop to let the car go by us. I am amazed at all the beautiful old homes along the way. We wound through Italy then into Switzerland then back into Italy then back into Switzerland and then yet again into Italy and then finally back into Switzerland. We ate a snack in a very small town restaurant, one of the many times we were in and out of Switzerland. How do you know for sure when you are in Switzerland? Unbelievably clean. Roads are perfect and homes are immaculate. Zermatt does not allow cars so you have to park your car in Tasch and take the train into zermatt. Tom was blown away by how clean the parking garage is. I am including a photo. I have included many photos along our route today. Beautiful mountainside. Amazed at how high some of the houses are and wonder how long it takes them to get to work. Ate dinner here in zermatt. I have never had cheese fondue so I decided to have here in Switzerland. It was really good. Our hotel has a view of the Matterhorn from our balcony, but will have to wait til tomorrow for photos. Too cloudy and rainy today. Amazingly, this is a very touristy town, but since no cars, it is extremely quiet. The only thing we hear is a river from the mountains flowing by our hotel. Of course, we have the door wide open. Love the fresh air. More tomorrow from the trail.
