July 31 Edmonton - Edmonton, Canada
Edmonton, Canada
A lie-in again this morning and eventually we made our first expedition of the day to the Bearclaw Gallery. Keen to add to our Inuit soapstone collection we scouted for some more; we finally decided on a walrus and a bear. They are very different pieces of artwork and a reminder of our times in this city. Sue gave us a set of Benjamin Chee Chee coasters which match the painting in our hallway. The next stop....morning tea at The Duchess Patisserie. It is decorated in French provincial style and the cakes looked oh so good. The coffees were the best in Canada so far and the brownie and scone were scrumptious too. Once back home we decided to have a restful afternoon at home which turned into some packing and then a sleep before getting ready to have dinner at Gail and Bill's. Their son, Kyle, was also there and he recalls playing with a baby Whitney in 1994! Had a lovely meal and some laughs. Whitney and Kate have always heard about Bill's 'man cave' which is filled with all his prize hunting catches so at last they got to see it tonight. He once caught a seven and a half foot black bear weighing close to 480lbs. It's the 45th largest ever recorded and he has the magazine write-up to prove it. It is quite an eerie feeling patting and staring into the eyes of a black bear. He also has a caribou, an elk, a buck deer and ducks along with his gun collection. He says he is more into fishing these days!! Still, an interesting look at what a Canadian hunter does.
