On our way - Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Where I stayed

Nova hotel bur Dubai

Wednesday was supposed to be a relaxing day before the start of our trip. Time to paint my nails do something with my hair , finish packing etc. However that wasn't to be the case. Chrissie and I went into Epsom so that she could get her last few bits and put credit on her phone. We went into a coffee shop with wifi and Chrissie found that something was wrong with her banking. She just caught the bank before it closed and spent 45 mins of stress sorting it out. Then it was all rush. I have forgotten several things probably more than I realize yet, still it will be ok I hope!!!
We stayed at the White House Hotel in Horley, which was a bit grotty, on Wednesday night to catch the early morning flight to Dubai. The curry was very good though.
We flew with Emirates and it was the most fantastic airline ever. Really enjoyed the flight apart from the stroppy businessman sitting next to Chrissie who drank five bottle of wine.yes they were half bottles. The food was good and the crew were excellent and entertainment was first rate. The time flew by.
It was dark when we arrived and coming into land we could see the grids of green a white lights all looking very exciting. The city is so much bigger than I imagined and Dubai airport is a chrome and white work of art. We had arranged a car from the hotel to pick us up and we drove passed night markets buzzing with people and live Arabic bands playing. They seem to go in for Christmas type street lighting. All very festive. We are in Bur Dubai which is the old part of town. After we had dumped our bags we had a wonder around. I forgot to pick up a Dubai guide books so we don't know the ropes. There were loads of men about and we didn't see many women especially on there own but we didn't feel at all threatened. It's very Arabic and foreign to us- exciting.
We found a vegetarian restaurant where we had a delicious curry for about four pounds each! Now we are back in our rooms - two very large bedrooms with seating and coffee tables - a dressing room and bathroom. I've got the bed that is eight foot wide and Chrissie has a single bed in her room. It sounds flash but it's not - clean but a bit run down. Still it's cheap and suites us down to the ground.
