Day 22 Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada - Niagara Falls, Canada

Niagara Falls, Canada

The following day we crossed over into Canada quite early in the morning and spent most of the morning at the falls. This was a highlight of our holiday and both of us were really impressed by the falls and the facilities around the falls. Our tour included a ticket for the "Maid of the Mist' and we boarded the boat and sailed out into the gorge with our blue raincoats (more like plastic bags) not quite sure what to expect. The spray from the falls was awesome and had it not been for our raincoats we would have been absolutely soaked. As it is we all looked like drowned rats when we returned to the jetty. There seems to be some competition between the USA and Canada as to which country has the best part of the falls which is actually quite amusing.

There are 3 main falls which are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The American and the Bridal Veil Falls are on the USA side and the Horseshoe Falls are on the Canadian side. The Horseshoe Falls are by far the biggest of the 3 and this must really irk the Americans.

We were then treated to lunch at the top of the Skylon Tower which is on the Canadian side of the falls and has really spectacular views over the falls especially if the weather is good. We were quite fortunate to have a bright sunny day at the falls. The tower is 160 metres high from street level and 236 metres from the bottom of the falls so you are sure to get very good views of the falls. A very good day all round.
