Sedona, Arizona has one of the best landscapes in the U.S. Everywhere you go you have amazing views of stunning red rocks. Regardless of where you are in Sedona you won’t have to go very far to find an outstanding view. Places like Red Rock State Park and even the Sedona Airport are a great start, but there are several jeep trails throughout Sedona that can’t be accessed without a four-wheel drive vehicle.

There are plenty of jeep tours to choose from, but if you like to explore on your own you can also rent a jeep or another off-road vehicle. On a recent trip to Arizona we rented a tomcar from Sedona Off-Road Center. With the tomcar you can go basically anywhere that the jeep tours will take you, and on the trails you can even go faster than the jeeps (the road is a different story as the tomcar tops out around 35 mph).

We had the tomcar for 6 hours for a price of around $200 plus gas. In that time we got to explore wherever we wanted, and we wound up seeing the same things that it would have taken 2 or 3 jeep tours to cover. Plus, with the tomcar rental you can stop whenever you want to take pictures, enjoy the view, or hike.

The tomcar handled all of the off-roading surprisingly well, even the trail that we were told was the most intense off-roading in the area. The whole experience was a lot of fun and if you enjoy doing things on your own, and a little adventure, rather than riding along with a small tour group, the tomcar rental may be a great option for you if you’re visiting Sedona.

In addition to tomcar rentals, some companies also rent out Jeeps (Barlow Jeep Rentals is one that we saw a few times) especially for off-road purposes.

Here are some photos of the scenes while exploring Sedona. At the end of the page we have some links to helpful resources if you’re looking for a rental in Sedona.
