Australia’s southern coast is home to many wonderful beaches, interesting sights to see, and fabulous food to eat. Adelaide has all of these. Conveniently located toward the center of the south coast, travel to and from Adelaide is easy. Being the capital of South Australia, it is also the country’s fifth largest city, and with so much to see and do, a long weekend might not be enough time to enjoy it all. You will undoubtedly want to extend your stay. There is no shortage of fun activities to do and interesting places to see, but if pressed for time, here are a few suggestions by area of interest.
1. History
Adelaide is rich in history, including its significant railway presence. The National Railway Museum Port Adelaide is a fun and interesting stop to make to learn all about Australia’s railway system and history. For a broader exposure to history and culture, visit the South Australian Museum, which features exhibits displaying everything from ancient Aboriginal culture to fossils, and even a giant squid. 2. Art
The Art Gallery of South Australia boasts some of the most interesting and diverse art collections in all of Australia. 3. Gardening

4. Wine
Some of the best wine in Australia comes from the southern region and Adelaide is no exception. Known primarily for its rich Shiraz, the region has attracted international attention over the last few decades. The scenic surrounding area, just a short 30 minute drive from Adelaide, has some of the finest bed and breakfast accommodations available. The Louise Barossa Valley and the Abbotsford Country House will both offer welcoming homes and cottages so you can enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the area.
5. Chocolate

As you can see, Adelaide has so much to offer – whether you are looking for a quick weekend getaway or an extended vacation, you will not be disappointed. The beaches are long, sandy, and relaxing; the food and wine are top-notch, and the attractions will satisfy almost every interest. The only difficult part is that you will not want to leave.
