1. Be a high roller in Vegas

Head to Vegas!

Las Vegas isn’t meant to be sipped slowly. Sin City is like drinking from a firehose. Everything about this city is meant to be over the top, right? So what better way to go over the top than to actually see the city from high above it? You can jump from a plane with a Las Vegas Tandem Skydiving tour, or get heart-pumping views with a Fighter Pilot Experience in Las Vegas. For an adrenaline rush on ground level, the Las Vegas Richard Petty Ride Along Experience will whip you at speeds of up to 160 mph at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. To drive your own car around the famous track, sit behind the wheel of a Porsche or Ferrari with the Exotic Car Driving Experience Power Package. By night, learn the sordid sin of “Sin City” on an intriguing Vegas Mob Tour, or catch a performance of Absinthe at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas or Million Dollar Quarter at Harrah’s Las Vegas. There’s never a dull moment in this desert electron, and as the saying goes, you can sleep when you’re dead.

2. See the Manhattan skyline from the air and water

Manhattan Skyline

Every city is packed with sights, but when it comes to Manhattan—the capital of the world—the city skyline is a sight unto itself. Get panoramic views of some of the world’s most famous buildings from 70 stories up at the Top of the Rock observation deck, or go even higher to 86 stories at the Empire State Building Observatory and Skip the Line Tickets. To trade the panoramic view for a bird’s eye view, a New York Manhattan Scenic Helicopter Tour lets you fly over the trees of Central Park and gaze down on Ellis Island and the George Washington Bridge. At night, a Viator VIP: NYC Night Helicopter Flight and Statue of Liberty Cruise offers an aerial experience as magical as it is thrilling by soaring above the illuminated skyline. Finally, if you’d rather crane your neck skywards than look down from above, a New York Harbor Hop on Hop Off Cruise gives you a sea-level vantage point of New York icons such as the Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building.

3. Honor our heroes at Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor is a chilling sight, even amidst the tropical heat. It’s been 72 years since Japanese bombers unleashed the early-morning surprise attack, and 2,400 American soldiers lost their lives in this watery grave. This is where World War II started for the United States of America, and when the Japanese signed the surrender agreement aboard the deck of the USS Missouri, is also where the war officially ended now that the ship is in port. Pearl Harbor is a sight that every American must visit, and on a USS Missouri, Arizona Memorial, Pearl Harbor and Punchbowl Day Tour, you’ll be taken from the waters above the sunken battleship to a National Cemetery of fallen soldiers. For those with less time, a similar Arizona Memorial, Pearl Harbor and Punchbowl Sightseeing Tour is a few hours shorter than the full day tour, and also passes by Iolani Palace—the only Royal Palace on US soil. To combine Pearl Harbor with the rest of Oahu, the Pearl Harbor, USS Arizona and Circle Island Day Trip is a whirlwind day of reflecting on history while also enjoying the island’s best sights.

4. Explore the Grand Canyon from above and below

Visit the Grand Canyon

It’s taken millions of years for the Colorado River to erode the colorful rocks of the Grand Canyon, but with a scenic Grand Canyon helicopter tour you can be enveloped by the beauty in minutes. From the Grand Canyon heliport, a 25-minute Grand Canyon Dancer Helicopter Tour from Tusayan, Arizona is the easiest way to soar above the wonder. Most tours, however, depart from Las Vegas, and on outings such as the Grand Canyon All American Helicopter Tour or the Grand Canyon West Rim VIP Helicopter Tour from Las Vegas you’ll combine the canyon’s earthy colors with the neon lights of Vegas. To get a ground-level view of this gaping space—and to experience the canyon in near-perfect silence—a Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam Day Trip from Las Vegas with Optional Skywalk will shuttle you to the canyon in a comfortable bus and let you stand over the void on the “SkyWalk.” To both walk on air as well as fly through it, the Ultimate Grand Canyon 4-in-1 Helicopter Tour combines the Skywalk with a flight above the massive canyon and lands in a remote corner of the park. Or, for a romantic adventure that will never be forgotten, a Viator VIP: Grand Canyon Sunset Helicopter Tour with Dinner lets you land in the canyon for a private picnic before shuttling you back to the Las Vegas Strip. This is one of the world’s most dramatic sights, so why not go over the top and under the lip in perfectly-dramatic fashion.

5. Take a bite out of the Big Apple

Explore the Big Apple

New York has an energy unlike anywhere on the planet. It’s the hum of businessmen walking to work, the smells of food carts in the early-morning air, and the pulse of visitors touring the sights in this city that never sleeps. There’s always something happening in New York, and on a New York in One Day Sightseeing Tour you can jump right in to be a part of it. See the Brooklyn Bridge and its famous engineering, stroll the trails of Central Park, or crane your neck skywards towards the Empire State Building and get a feel for the buzz of Manhattan. To visit sights on your own schedule—but not have to wait in the lines—a New York City Pass will save you time for exploring NYC. To make up your schedule as you go along, consider a New York Hop-On Hop-Off Tour including Statue of Liberty Ferry Ticket where you can visit sights for as long as you please in whatever order you wish. For a guided tour of the city’s sights but without the lengthy lines, a Viator VIP: Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty and 9/11 Memorial tour is an informative, insider perk. To touch on some of the street-level culture, a Harlem Sunday-Morning Gospel Tour offers an authentic experience unlike any other in the city, or to immerse yourself in the passion of baseball join a NY Yankees VIP Baseball Tour: Stadium Tour and Lunch with a Yankees Legend. With so much happening in this whirlwind city and so many activities to choose from, one of the best ways to visit New York is to simply get out there and do it.

6. See the highlights of San Francisco

Ride the trolleys in San Francisco

Foggy, hilly, and full of hearts, San Francisco has the unique ability to be trendy, historic, outdoorsy, and urban all within the course of a day. When visiting the West Coast’s iconic city, get a panoramic view of the Golden Gate Bridge aboard a San Francisco Bay Sailing Cruise. Visit Fisherman’s Wharf, the waterfront of North Beach, and navigate the city’s Chinese heritage with a San Francisco Chinatown Walking Tour. For a visit to the nation’s most notorious prison, an Alcatraz and San Francisco City Tour is a convenient combination of the city’s most popular sights, or save yourself time and see the city in style with a Viator VIP: Early Access to Alcatraz and Exclusive Cable Car Sightseeing Tour. To the north of the city, over the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco displays its natural side among the nearby forest and hills. On an Alcatraz Tour plus Muir Woods, Giant Redwoods and Sausalito Day Trip, you can explore the beauty of Northern California from the water as well as the trails.

7. Enjoy the beauty of the Bay Area

San Francisco is such an exciting city to explore that it can be easy to forget how close nature’s grandeur is to the city center. The number of day trips you can take is staggering—especially when you consider that some of those day trips are to world-famous locations. Oenophiles will love a Napa and Sonoma Wine Country Tour through one of the world’s best wine regions, or hop aboard the Napa Valley Wine Train to be shuttled amongst the vineyards. For an exclusive outing that pairs the wine with a visit to the Culinary Arts Center, consider a ride on the Viator Exclusive: Private Napa Valley Wine Train Culinary Experience from San Francisco. To the south of the city, out towards the horizon, you’ll find the scenic romance of the Pacific coast on a visit to Monterey, Carmel and 17-Mile Drive Day Trip from San Francisco. Or, put a little riverside relaxation into your visit to California wine country, and paddle and swim in the Russian River on a Russian River Canoe Trip from Healdsburg.

8. Taste the diverse flavors of the US

Classic New York Pizza

From New York City to San Francisco and everywhere in between, one great things about America is the variety and diversity of food. This “nation of immigrants” is the culinary beneficiary of cultures from around the globe, and eating your way across America is truly an authentic experience. In New York City, hit the streets with Italian flavor on a Pizza Walking Tour of Manhattan, and see if the pies vary by boroughs on a New York Pizza Tour to Brooklyn and Coney Island. For finer dining that’s still curbside,  a New York City Gourmet Food Cart Walking Tour fuses metropolitan flavors with the bustle of the New York streets, and you can wash it all down later in the day with a Brewery and Beer-Tasting Tour in Brooklyn. On the West Coast, a San Francisco Food Tour of the Mission District with Optional Cocktail Pairing will give you a taste of the city’s culture, or you can hang by the harbor in the state of Washington with a Gourmet Seattle Walking Tour or Food and Cultural Walking Tour of Pike Place Market.

9. Have fun with the whole family in San Diego

With over 265 days per year of famous California sunshine, San Diego is the perfect city for exploring with the entire family. To get a sense of the coastal beauty of the ritzy northern suburbs, a San Diego Coast Tour Including La Jolla and Torrey Pines will take you through laidback beach communities full of surfers, seals, and sunshine. Closer to downtown, budding biologists and marine enthusiasts will love the San Diego Seal Tour, and the San Diego Zoo 1-Day Pass offers a day of viewing exotic wildlife in a warm, coastal setting. If you’ve been visiting Disneyland in Orange County but still want to visit San Diego, a SeaWorld San Diego Ticket with Transport makes it possible to visit the aquatic theme park on a fun-filled, adventurous day trip.

10. See the best of British Columbia

Butchart Gardens

Mountainous, forested, and incomparably scenic, British Columbia is where the world’s second-largest nation meets the big blue Pacific. Most of the action is in the southwest corner in the immediate vicinity of Vancouver, although there’s so much to do in such a tightly-packed radius it’s a vacation unto itself. For the best view of the city, visiting Victoria by Seaplane and Ferry from Vancouver offers a stunning panorama of the harbor, or if you’d prefer to visit Victoria with your feet on the ground, the Vancouver to Victoria and Butchart Gardens Tour by Bus visits the immaculate garden on Vancouver Island that is one of Canada’s National Historic sites. Back on the mainland, a Vancouver Food Trucks Tour is both a culinary and cultural experience in the city, and if you happen to be embarking on a cruise in Vancouver but first want to the tour the city, the Vancouver Shore Excursion: Pre-Cruise North Shore Tour with Port Drop Off will visit the city’s most notable sights before dropping you off at your ship. For as much fun as the city can be, the towering mountains that serve as the backdrop are too alluring to pass up. For an adventurous trek into the heart of the forest, a Vancouver North Shore Day Trip with Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain gives you the chance to experience the fresh mountain air and walk 446 feet across the world’s longest suspended footbridge. Finally, for a full day adventure in the surrounding wilderness, a Whistler Small Group Day Trip from Vancouver will visit Shannon Falls—the third tallest waterfall in Canada—and spend time in Canada’s most famous ski resort which was once the host to the Olympics.

11. Explore the wilderness of Alaska

Explore Alaska’s wilderness

Alaska. The Last Frontier. Land of the Midnight Sun. Whatever you call it, the 49th state is one of the most scenic outposts in America. In Juneau—the state capital—a Juneau Shore Excursion: Whale-Watching Adventure introduces you to humpbacks which spend the summer gorging themselves on krill. Back on land, adventurous mountaineers who want to really experience the wilderness can strap on the crampons on a Juneau Shore Excursion: Mendenhall Glacier Trek and Climb. To combine the ocean and land adventures for the most adventurous day trip possible, the Viator Exclusive: Mendenhall Glacier, Whale-Watching Cruise and Juneau City Tour will leave you in awe of the area’s beauty. Farther north, up the Inside Passage, marvel at a terrain which is impossible in its beauty on a Skagway Shore Excursion: Full-Day Tour of the Yukon. Emerald lakes and snowcapped peaks both dominate this empty countryside, and you’ll have the chance to talk with dog mushers who race huskies across the wilderness. Finally, on the Skagway Shore Excursion: Chilkoot Trail Hike and Float Tour, history buffs and outdoor enthusiasts will think they have hit the jackpot. This historic trail traces the route of 19th-century gold miners and climbs its way through an alpine panorama which is legendary in its beauty.

12. Feel like a kid again in Orlando

Walt Disney World

Let’s face it – some places are more likely than others to bring out our inner child, and Orlando ranks pretty highly on that list. After all, this is the city that’s home to Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, and SeaWorld. Structuring all the fun can sometimes be a challenge, so an easy way to visit the city is with a bundle of theme park packages. Consider Disney’s 3-Day Magic Your Way Ticket or the Universal Orlando 3-Park Bonus Ticket to tour the theme parks at your own pace, or dine like a rock star with a Disney Character Dinner at Chef Mickey’s Restaurant. You’ll even be picked up in your own limousine for your exclusive evening with the cast!

13. Tour the highlights of the Pacific Northwest

The Pacific Northwest cities of Seattle and Portland have long been known for the laid-back attitude of residents, the proximity to spectacular natural attractions, and a heavy focus on great food and wine. The cities have similarities, but to get a real taste of the whole region you’d be smart to visit both. Let Mother Nature’s mountains impress you with a Mt Rainier Day Tour from Seattle or Small-Group Full-Day Tour of Mount St Helens Volcano from Seattle. Head out onto the Olympic Peninsula with a Small-Group Olympic National Park Tour from Seattle, visit Snoqualmie Falls and Seattle Winery Tour, or see the best of Seattle in One Day: Sightseeing Tour including Space Needle and Pike Place Market. In Oregon, you can smell the salt on the ocean breeze with an Oregon Coast Day Trip from Portland: Astoria and Cannon Beach, or head inland on the Columbia River on a Portland Sightseeing Tour Including Columbia Gorge Waterfalls. You may need to take a rain jacket—even in June—but the Pacific Northwest will grow on you.

14. Feel the mist at Niagara

Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is an impressive sight to behold no matter whether you’re on the American or Canadian side. Luckily, you can visit both sides during one trip. From May-October spend the day on a Niagara Falls Luxury Tour and Maid of the Mist Boat Ride, or see it all on a Niagara Falls in One Day: Deluxe Sightseeing Tour of American and Canadian Sides. For a fast-paced thrill with the wind in your hair, book a Niagara Falls Domed Jet Boat Ride that will rocket you up towards the falls, and if you’re visiting New York, don’t forget you can still see the famous falls on a Niagara Falls Day Trip from New York by Air.

15. Explore the islands of Hawaii

Go whale watching in Hawaii

The islands of Hawaii are the most isolated landmass found anywhere on Earth. These volcanic outposts teem with adventure from the summits on down towards the sea, and exploring the islands of the Hawaiian archipelago is a magical dance with nature. On Oahu, escape the crowds of pulsing Waikiki with a Small-Group Oahu Eco-Tour Including Waimea Valley Hike and Hanauma Bay. Or, to get out on the water, book a Kayaking Tour of Kailua Bay with Lunch or take Oahu Surfing or Stand-Up Paddleboarding Lessons. To the west of Oahu, the island of Kauai is the most eroded of the Hawaiian islands, and this dramatic scenery is best seen on an Entire Kauai Island Air Tour. During the winter months of December-April, a Maui Whale Watch Cruise is the best place to see the famous, acrobatic humpbacks, and you can cap off your visit on the island of Hawaii with a Small-Group Big Island Tour: Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Kona Coffee Farm.

16. Relax (or not) on the beaches of Mexico

Sure, Mexico is a great place for a thatched-roof palapa and a cold, tropical drink, but not everyone is content to sit and bake beneath a layer of scented coconut oil. Travelers to Mexico who want outdoor adventure have no shortage of it to choose from, and many are found in the same beach towns which are notorious for lounging and lazing. On the Yucatan Peninsula, fly above the turquoise ocean on a Cancun Parasailing Adventure. Or, opt to soar though the tropical tree tops on a Cancun Extreme Zipline Canopy Tour. Take part in a Sightseeing, Snorkeling and Dancing Catamaran Cruise from Cancun that combines the party and adventure, or book yourself on a Cozumel Self-Drive Buggy Tour combined with Snorkeling, Mayan Ruins and Mexican Lunch. In Los Cabos—the famous resort towns on the southern tip of the enchanting Baja peninsula—a Los Cabos Arch and Bay Kayak Adventure is the perfect way to spend an active morning before a wild night on the town.

17. See the Skyline of the Windy City

See the Windy City

You may not know it, given the prevalence of skyscrapers in cities around the world today, but Chicago is considered to be the birth of the skyscraper. Sure, there are plenty of great reasons to visit the Windy City, but to skip the chance to learn more about its trend-setting architecture would be a shame. Many tours will cover some aspects of Chicago architecture, but to get a fuller picture sign up for a Chicago Architecture River Cruise. You can also do a Chicago City Hop-on Hop-off Tour for a more DIY tour experience, or go 103 stories above the Chicago streets with the Skydeck Chicago Admission. Visitors who plan to tour a number of sights can pick up the Chicago CityPass to save on admission, or try something different and motor on two wheels on a guided Chicago Segway Tour. For as much attention as the architecture gets, however, Chicago to some visitors is all about the food, and a Small-Group Chicago Food Tour: Gold Coast and Old Town is a great way to literally taste the history that has created modern-day Chicago.

18. See the diversity of the Wild West

Witness the scenery in Yosemite

The American West is an iconic area which is known across the world. Cowboys, Indians, and painted deserts have been glorified in movies and lore, although the beautiful reality of the American West is its emptiness, diversity, and freedom. On the Monument Valley and Navajo Indian Reservation tour, visit corners of the desert Southwest that are still ruled by Native American influence. In the vast desert of central California, go down below sea level to one of the hottest places on the planet on an adventure-filled Death Valley Explorer Tour by Tour Trekker. In the mountains of the Sierra, stand beneath trees which stretch to the sky when you book a Yosemite National Park and Giant Sequoias Trip. Walk in the footsteps of Ansel Adams and the legendary conservationist John Muir, and you’ll understand why many fought so hard to preserve this wide open space.

19. Meet the wildlife of the Florida Everglades

You can forgive yourself if the Florida Everglades feel like another country. This vast expanse of soggy swampland stretches out to the horizon, and it’s crawling with animals not usually found in other parts of America. Alligators, for example, are everywhere throughout the Everglades, as are rare iguanas, large pythons, and exotic species of birds. For the chance to encounter South Florida wildlife—and cruise at 40 mph in a high-speed airboat—book a Florida Everglades Airboat Adventure and Wildlife Encounter Ticket. Visitors staying at most places in South Florida have access to the massive swamp, and you can book the Florida Everglades Swamp Tour and Airboat Ride from Orlando, a Small-Group Tour Everglades Adventure Day Trip from Ft Lauderdale, a Miami Combo Tour: City Sightseeing, Biscayne Bay Cruise and Everglades Airboat Ride, or Florida Everglades Airboat Tour and Alligator Show from Fort Lauderdale.

20. Visit the nation’s capital in Washington DC

See the Nation’s capital at night

The nation’s capital has a powerful energy which isn’t found elsewhere in the country. This history, the monuments, the political happenings—they’re all a part of the DC fabric which make it such a popular place. While it can be overwhelming choosing where to visit in a city with so many sights, a magical way to spend an evening in DC is to take a Washington DC Monuments by Moonlight Night Tour by Trolley. During the daylight hours, a Washington DC Segway Tour is a unique way to move about town, or get a broad overview of the major sights on a Washington DC in a Day Tour. There are definitely no shortage of museums in DC, and aspiring photojournalists or newsroom veterans should book Admission to Washington DC Newseum. Outside of DC in the surrounding countryside, an Independent Day Trip to Mount Vernon and Old Town Alexandria from Washington DC will take you to the home of President George Washington and the roots of American history.

21. Explore the great outdoors in the Canadian Rockies

Head to the great outdoors

There are vast stretches of wilderness in Canada that are so untouched and unpopulated that they put the “wild” back in wilderness. The Canadian Rockies are a spectacularly beautiful example of this, and no matter what time of year you visit there’s plenty to see and do. From a base in Calgary you could take a Columbia Icefield Tour from Calgary, or if staying in the nearby mountain resorts take a Mountain Lakes and Waterfalls Day Trip from Banff. To truly get out in the wilderness, however, requires multiple days of exploring the expanse surrounding the Canadian Rockies. The easiest way to enjoy the ride and to stare in wonder out the window is on a 5-Day Rail Tour of the Canadian Rockies: Vancouver to Jasper, Banff, Lake Louise and Kamloops Aboard the “Rocky Mountaineer”. This multi-day tour covers the “best of the West” and is an unforgettable journey. Just remember to bring the right gear, because even in the summer it can be chilly at night.

22. Soak up the sun (and see celebrities) in Hollywood and Los Angeles

There are two awesome reasons to hang out in Los Angeles: to enjoy the year-round gorgeous weather and to get a peek at how (and where) the other half lives. Either one is reason enough—and when you combine the two you have the makings of a very LA vacation. Movie buffs should definitely consider The VIP Experience at Universal Studios Hollywood, where you’ll get inside access to the way movies are filmed and insight into the industry. For a quicker visit, opt for the Skip the Line: Front of Line Pass at Universal Studios Hollywood to save yourself time when visiting. If you’re more concerned with who’s in the movies than the process that goes into making them, the TMZ Hollywood Celebrity Hot Spot Tour in Los Angeles has all the info you’ve been looking for. Finally, for the sordid, seedy underbelly of the Los Angeles celebrity industry, live the tales of the final moments of the city’s most notable residents. On Dearly Departed: The Tragic History Tour of Los Angeles, visit the sights where your favorite celebrities met their untimely end, and learn a bit about celebrity scandals which are part of Hollywood lore.

23. Let the good times roll in New Orleans

Learn how to cook up some cajun cuisine

For many travelers, New Orleans may be synonymous with drunken debauchery, but the famous “let the good times roll” attitude of the city isn’t just about enjoying a night out at the bar. In fact, if you visit New Orleans and don’t get beyond Bourbon Street, you’re missing out on the array of activities that the city and region have to offer. Get out of the city and explore some of the nearby natural wonders on a Small-Group Bayou Airboat Ride with Transport from New Orleans, or a Small-Group Louisiana Plantations Tour from New Orleans. To combine the two for an authentic look at life in the N’awlins countryside, you can Experience Cajun Country: Swamp Boat Adventure and Plantations Full-Day Tour from New Orleans. If you choose to explore the French Quarter, do it as part of a New Orleans French Quarter Segway Tour where you learn the history of the city. Gumbo fans can strap on an apron with a festive New Orleans Cooking Class, and if you are going to have some drinks in the city, do it as part of a New Orleans Original Cocktail Walking Tour.

24. Visit a slice of France in Montreal and Quebec

Do you have a hankering for a trip to Europe but can’t quite justify the cost? No worries – head for Quebec. The whole province gives visitors a chance to hone their French skills, and Montreal is one of the most charming European cities not actually in Europe. To get acquainted with Montreal you can take a Walking Tour of Old Montreal or Downtown Montreal, or explore the surrounding sights of Quebec on a Quebec City and Montmorency Falls Day Trip from Montreal. If staying in Quebec City—a small and charming cousin to Montreal—take some time to learn about the city on an intriguing Quebec City Walking Tour. Out on the water, towards the St. Lawrence Seaway, you can book a Full-Day Whale Watching Cruise from Quebec, or watch water thunder its way down a cliff on a Half-Day Trip to Montmorency Falls and Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré from Quebec.

25. Explore ancient Mayan ruins in Mexico

Chichen Itza is waiting to be explored!

Before the fancy beach resorts there were boatloads of conquering Spanish, and before the Spanish and their imperialist ways was the ancient culture of the Maya. Though much has changed over the ensuing centuries and the Maya are no longer in power, the fascinating ruins which they once constructed still sit in the Mexican forests. You can visit these ruins and reach into the past on a Chichen Itza Day Trip from Cancun, or also explore Chichen Itza from Riviera Maya. For those who want a quieter scene and want to commune with the ruin, the Chichen Itza Small-Group Tour with Private Entrance helps to thin the crowds. If you’re a traveler who really knows your history or have a keen fascination on learning, the Viator Exclusive: Early Access to Chichen Itza with a Private Archeologist is an all-access pass to knowledge. Finally, if you have a day in Mexico City to explore the cultural past, the Teotihuacan Pyramids and Shrine of Guadalupe are an essential Mexico City day trip, and it’s the perfect way to escape the hum and buzz of one of the largest cities in the world.
