As the Christmas and New Year holiday period fast approaches, East Midlands Trains customers are being advised to check before they travel.
The vast majority of the East Midlands Trains network will remain open throughout the Christmas period but there are some changes to services as a result of railway improvement works as well as special timetables which are in operation between Christmas Eve and Monday 4 January.
Services will stop running earlier than normal on Christmas Eve and as usual, no trains will operate on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Information on the last services from London St Pancras on Christmas Eve can be found below and customers are strongly advised to check the times of their last trains.
Neil Micklethwaite, Customer Experience and Commercial Director for East Midlands Trains, said: “We know that people will be using our train services to travel around and visit friends and family over Christmas, and many people will still need to travel to and from work, and we are pleased that the vast majority of our services will continue to run during this time.
“There will be some alterations to our usual timetable so I would encourage everyone to double check before travelling.
“On behalf of East Midlands Trains, I’d like to wish all of our customers a very Merry Christmas.”
Network Rail will be carrying out improvement work across some parts of the country, which will have an impact on the following East Midlands Trains routes:
Train services will not be able to run between Kettering and Corby on Sunday 27 December and a replacement bus service will be in place throughout the day.
Rail replacement services will be running between Market Rasen and Cleethorpes/Grimsby between Sunday 27 December and Monday 11 January. Normal train services are planned to start running on the morning of 11 January.
Mark Tarry, route managing director for Network Rail, said: “This major upgrade of the railway has been two years in the planning with the support of the port, industry and local authorities. With the majority being carried out over Christmas – a relatively quiet time on the railway – ultimately we will reduce the amount of disruption caused but we echo the important message that passengers should check before they travel this Christmas.
“We are creating a railway in this part of the country that passengers, customers and business can trust, and I would like to thank our neighbours and all others who will be impacted by this investment programme for their patience and understanding.”
