On Sunday 20/7/2014, His Excellency the Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar hosts a coordination meeting of “The Committee for Upgrading and Improving the Efficiency of Services and Tourist Sites in Dhofar Governorate”  in his office. The committee is chaired by His Excellency Ahmed AL-Mahrazi – Minister of Tourism. The meeting will be attended by all the committee’s members and representatives of concerned governmental departments that are linked to governorates’ preparations to host Kharif season’ visitors.

The coordination meeting is expected to have a presentation about the programs and projects of  “The Committee for Upgrading and Improving the Efficiency of Services and Tourist Sites in Dhofar Governorate” that have been prepared for the purpose to host the Kharif Season’s visitors. After that, the Public Authority of Civil Defense and Ambulance shall give a presentation about its plans prepared for the season. Not only that, but also the meeting would discuss preparations of other concerned governmental departments concerned to Kharif season and Salalah Tourist Festival; like Oman Royal Police, Dhofar Governorate, and many others.

The meeting will be followed by field visits to a couple of projects implemented by “The Committee for Upgrading and Improving the Efficiency of Services and Tourist Sites in Dhofar Governorate”. The tour’ program will cover visiting “ Traveler’ Oasis” project in Sahl Hamrir, “A’sadah Entertainment Park”, project of developing barbecue’ booths in Shal Atein and the project of developing A’dahareiz beach.

The most key projects executed by the Committee as kind of preparing for the current Kharif season are reviewed hereunder. Both the Ministry of Tourism and the committee were concerned to have diversified projects that enhance efficiency and develop a couple of tourist service sites. Not only that, but they also were paying attention to provide all necessary services and facilities to visitors.

“Traveler’s Oasis”

One of the key tourist projects provided for the second year in a row is the Traveler’s Oasis Project. It is implemented by “The Committee for Upgrading and Improving the Efficiency of Services and Tourist Sites in Dhofar Governorate”. The Traveler’s Oasis project is the main center to provide all the governorate’s visitors with information and promotional services during Kharif season. The oasis is the first thing visitors face when they enter the governorate on land.

The oasis has been established to provide the Kharif’ visitors with information services and help them organizing their bookings and residences in Dhofar. The oasis consists of elegant tents that have information services, rest area equipped with WI FI internet, area for restaurants and coffee shops, shopping and souvenirs outlets, kids’ plays area, prayer room for men and other  for  women, toilets and cars’ parking lots.

It worth mentioning here that the Traveler’s Oasis project has achieved last year great satisfaction and success. It is implemented for the second year in a row.

“A’Sadah Entertainment Park “

It is a new project implemented this year by the committee. It aims to provide a variety of extraordinary events than the ones implemented last year in the Governorate. The park contains more than ten sections. Those sections are concerned to carry out events, activities, services, as well as, marketing and entertainment exhibitions.

The “A’Sadah Entertainment Park’s sections include a shopping section named “Pioneers’ Market”. Moreover, the park has the capacity for more than 100 exhibitors as it focuses its attention on marketing SMEs’ products from all governorates of the Sultanate. Not only that, but it also has a section for camping and plants nursery equipments, section to practice climbing (for adults), section of the traffic village where kids being enlightened about traffic, section for the world of dinosaurs providing an extraordinary experiences to its visitors,  robots’ section, horses’ carriages, 4*4 section to have an amazing experience driving 4*4 cars, circus and health section.

Almaghsail Beach

Almaghsail Beach is one of the projects the committee implements in the Dhofar Governorate  for the second year in a row. The site has been developed and provided with tourist services. Moreover, Almaghsail Beach Site is an attractive tourist destination where a great number of the governorate’s visitors come to. AlMaghsail Beach Site is equipped with entertainment services for families, allocated area for restaurants and coffee shops, booths to sell seasonal local fruits, toilets, diversified plays area for kids, cars’ parking lots and others.

Developing A’Dahareiz Beach

A’Dahareiz Beach is one of the projects developed by the committee in Dhofar Governorate. The committee developed it through paving passages 850-metres on beach for pedestrians along with developing sitting sunshades, allocating barbecue places, rest areas, tiled courts for family and youth gatherings, fountains, cars parking lots and many others.

Developing and Beautifying Barbecue Booths in Sahl Atein

Within the enhancement and development of projects in Dhofar Governorate, the old barbecue booths area in Sah Atein has been beautified and developed. The area extends for more than 400 meters latitude and 250 meter in width. That space allows the committee to develop passages, sitting locations, Kids pays area, toilets, prayer places for men and women, cars parking lots, livestock barns for people having barbecue with two allocated places for slaughtering livestock, and many others.

Rescue and Ambulance Services at Almaghsail and A’Dahareiz Beaches

Since it pays high attention to the safety of visitors, the Ministry of Tourism provides rescue and ambulance services for the second year in a row in the Dhofar Governorate. These services have been firstly launched at Almaghsail beach, yet A’dahareiz beach is added this year to be included in such services. The ministry contracted with a specialized company to cover some locations of beaches in the welayats of Taghah and Merbat. In addition, In cooperation with Oman Royal Police and Public Authority for Civil Defense and Ambulance, the company shall provide rescue services with all required equipment; such as, communication tools between team members and concerned departments, rescue equipment, setting temporary surveillance towers on beaches along with many other apparatus.

Help Services and Express Support on Road

One of the extraordinary services the committee provides this year are help services on road Adam-Thamriet. So, when someone’s car coincidently breaks down on road, he can call the Ministry’s call canter 80077799 , define his car’s location and type of failure.  A professional team will move to the caller and provide the help services and express support required. That team is being contracted by the ministry and provides help for emergency mechanical and electrical failures, repair tires problems, recharge cars’ batteries and gas filling when required.

Mobile and Self-Cleaning Toilets

The current Kharif season (Autumn) will witness provision of mobile toilets in a couple of  locations. Thus, this project aims to provide such services on road leading to the Governorate and in 21 other locations in Dhofar. Most importantly, self-cleaning toilets service will be inaugurated this year as those toilets will be distributed across many locations.

Tourist Information Centers

Tourist Information Centers are one of the key projects, either temporary or permanent, implemented by the Ministry of Tourism. In order to help tourists and visitors through providing them with tourist guidance and information, the ministry has Permanent Tourist Information Centers in airports, ports and in border exits. Not only that, but also the Ministry has Temporary Tourist Information Centers in a couple of points on road (In Dhofar Governorate). Those centers distribute brochures, prints, maps; as well as, awareness-raising services for tourists in the fields of information, guidance, tourist awareness as they receive notes and complains.

The Permanent Tourist Information Centers are distributed across border exits, Sulatn Qaboos port, Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport. However, the temporary centers are distributed across Adam-Thareit highway, entry points of the Welayat of Adam in the interior governorate, in Haima-Westa governorate, in “Traveler’s Oasis” in Hamrir, Salalah Tourist Festival Park, Almaghsail beach, Salalah Center and in Gardens Mall. It is important to mention here that people working in those centers are professional Omani youth supported by specialists and academicians.

Information Touch-Video Kiosk

Information Touch Video Kiosk is a new service to be launched this year concurrently with the opening of Salalah Tourist Festival.  Those kiosk will be distributed across many key locations in order to help visitors and tourists to get information in a modern, attractive and practical way.

Tourist Call Canter

Tourist Call Canter (80077799) operates 24/7 as it is part of the Ministry of Tourism. A trained and qualified team of professionals has been allocated during Kharif season to receive calls, inquiries and emergency calls that seek express support on Thamriet-Adam road.

In order to provide high quality services and supporting callers, the Tourist Call Center has been recently linked with Muscat Call Center.

Promotional and Raising-Awareness Media Campaign

The committee implements promotional and Raising-Awareness Media Campaign through daily Arabic and English newspapers. Not only that, but also the campaign is implemented through broadcasting promotional breaks on Oman TV and radio, and in some private radio stations, via signboards and brochures in some border exists.

Brochures, Prints and Tourist Maps

The Ministry of Tourism periodically publishes and updates many of its prints in order to be submitted to the Sultanate’s visitors for free. Moreover, Under the supervision of the committee, the ministry has published free promotional prints, booklets, brochures and maps concerning the  Dhofar governorate in general, and Kharif season in particular. They have been distributed through Tourist Information Centers affiliated with the ministry. Some of key prints are : the promotional brochure of the Traveler’ oasis, the promotional booklet for the Dhofar governorate; as well as, the governorate’s new map.

Welcome and Guidance SMS

Continuing its success achieved last year, the committee continues using communication technology and modern tools when providing its services to the Sultanate’s visitors in general and to Kharif’ visitors in particular. The committee broadcasts promotional and raising-awareness messages through SMS. It has already contracted with the two main telecommunication companies in the Sultanate.

Website and Mobile Applications

It is planned to launch an experimental and promotional website about the Governorate of Dhofar. It will be inaugurated by the start of Salalah Tourism Festival as a mobile application will be launched too at the same time. The website is developed to promote for the Governorate.

Survey for Kharif Season’ Visitors

The committee is committed to continue implementing a professional survey to monitor a couple of variables, phenomena and suggestion of the governorate’s visitors. The survey will be carried out by a professional international company. The company will be using latest information technology gadgets as it will collect data from various tourist and service sites in the Governorate.

Tourist Establishments Computation

“Tourist Establishments Computation” is a new project implemented by the committee. The purpose of this computation is to provide a comprehensive database, and tourist and sheltered establishments in the governorate’s welayats.
