The local experts of the region of Dubai have stated that the rapid development of the growth of world-class facilities have placed Dubai as a significant travel locale for cosmetic surgery.

For instance, the Dubai Health Experience has listed its cosmetic surgery packages on its website.

Dr. Jeehan Andul Qadir who is the executive chairperson of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital (AACSH) in Dubai said that cosmetic surgery is directly linked to medical tourism.

He feels that many factors have contributed to the rise of cosmetic surgery industry in Dubai over the last few years.

First of all, the rapid expansion of medical tourism industry had resulted to an increased focus on developing the medical offering in the region that matches global standards and positively impacts the aesthetic medicine sector too.

Dr. Jeehan said that at AACSH, breast surgery and liposuction are the most preferred procedures, comorising nearly 46% and 18% of all patients respectively.

The other much sought-after treatments are rhinoplasty, cosmetic gynaecology and abdominoplasty. These findings indicate that patients in Dubai or travelling to Dubai for availing surgery procedures are in sync with global trends.  Dr. Jaffer Khan, the medical director and founder, Aesthetic International and Nova Clinic also mentioned that he has observed a rise in the number of non-invasive procedures, for regional patients and even for medical tourists.

It is believed that a large number of these procedures are a consequence of word of mouth referrals.

The UAE Healthcare Sector Outlook 2020 issued by RNCOS said that the UAE’s healthcare industry is expected to grow by 7% between 2015 and 2020.

Dr. Jeehan said that medical tourism is among the most crucial factors that have been driving growth in the number of medical tourists visiting Dubai.

She added that nearly 13% of the patients at AACSH come from the Mena region.
