Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) today honors its Port Executive Partners in recognition of Western Hemisphere Ports Day. Organized by the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA), CLIA celebrates the contributions the port community makes to the global cruise industry.
“Ports are critical to the cruise experience as they help ensure the efficient and safe passage of cruise passengers to beautiful, diverse, and exciting destinations,” said Giora Israel, chairman of CLIA’s Port and Destination Committee, and senior vice president of global port and destination development for Carnival Corporation & plc. “Thirty-two Western Hemisphere seaports are CLIA Executive Partners, and we are grateful for their outstanding support of the global cruise industry.”
CLIA and its member cruise lines partner with ports and destinations around the world to provide exceptional cruise vacations. Eleven million passengers embark from U.S. cruise ports alone, accounting for half of all global cruise passengers, and providing positive economic benefits for port communities.
“The entire cruise industry is proud of the impact the port industry has on cruising, job creation and local communities,” said Cindy D’Aoust, CLIA president and CEO. “Without these ports, our industry could not service the millions of people who sail on CLIA member cruise ships each year.”
Last month, CLIA joined the AAPA and 30 other stakeholders in a letter to both the House and Senate Appropriations Committees urging them to fund the new U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) staff request in President Obama’s FY 2017 budget. The letter also asks for legislative language directing that new CBP staff be stationed at U.S. seaports.
