Recognized as the No. 1 golf resort in Latin America and boasting 90 holes of famed Pete Dye-designed golf, Casa de Campo challenges the finest players on the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica during the sixth annual 2014 Dominican Republic Open, May 12-18.

Selected by PGA Latin America and FEDOGOLF (Dominican Golf Federation), Casa de Campo is honored to host the tournament on Teeth of the Dog, the No. 1 golf course in Latin America designed by legendary course architect, Pete Dye. Moreover, these prestigious golf organizations will induct Pete Dye into the Dominican Golf Hall of Fame – making Dye, an American born in Ohio, the first foreigner to achieve the accolade.

Currently ranked No. 46 on GOLF Magazine’s list of the World’s Top 100 Courses, Teeth of the Dog proudly welcomes the 72-hole, stroke-play tournament featuring 144 players – from nearly 20 countries, including the United States and Latin America – competing for both the individual title and winner’s share of the $150,000 total purse.“This is the largest golf championship held in Latin America – re-affirming Casa de Campo and the Dominican Republic as international leading golf destinations,” said Peter Bonell, chief marketing officer for Casa de Campo. “We hope Teeth of the Dog presents productive challenges to these amazing players, in order to continue developing their skills and further pique their interest in playing all the Dominican Republic’s great golf courses.”

Tournament week will begin with an open qualifying round for unranked players on Monday, May 12, followed by a practice round on Tuesday and pro-am tournament on Wednesday. Championship play is Thursday through Sunday, May 15-18.

The 2014 edition of the NEC Series-PGA Tour Latinoamerica stages 16 events in 10 countries across Latin America – an increase from 14 tournaments played in 2013. Last season’s Dominican Republic Open at Punta Cana was won by U.S. tour pro Ryan Blaum, of Miami, Fla., who finished with a 279 total, 9 under par, which was two shots ahead of runner-up Maximiliano Godoy of Argentina. Blaum earned $27,000 for his first victory on the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica. Five players from the Dominican Republic qualified to play in the championship.

The PGA TOUR Latinoamerica is currently in its fourth season, which wraps up in December. The tour has developed into a positive learning experience for players in search of both a playing opportunity, as well as a way to improve as a tour professional.

Additional draws of “The Sporting Life” at Casa de Campo include a 245-acre Shooting Center, Polo & Equestrian Club and 370-slip Marina & Yacht Club and La Terrazza Tennis Center. Leisure amenities range from The Casa de Campo Spa, Minitas Beach and Catalina Island, to The Beach Club by Le Cirque dining, six other cuisine collections, and cultural immersion at Altos de Chavon – an artisan’s village modeled after a 16th-century Mediterranean city with boutique shops, museums, and a 5,000-seat Grecian-style amphitheater that hosts international touring concerts. For ease of arrival, the Casa de Campo La Romana International Airport (LRM) is five minutes from check-in and serviced by JetBlue Airways (now with direct routes from JFK three times a week), and American Airlines (daily non-stop service from South Florida). A short drive away, Santo Domingo (SDQ) and Punta Cana (PUJ) operate daily direct flights from all major U.S. airports.
